250°
53w ago - Square Enix Senior Online Community Manager Matt Hilton announced today that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn early access officially starts this weekend!

To quote: Yep, that's right, it's finally here. [Register or Login to view links] has been rebuilt from the ground up, and adventurers the world over will be able to begin their journey throughout Eorzea tomorrow with the start of Early Access, ahead of Tuesday's official launch.

It's a massively exciting time for the whole team, and we'd like to thank everybody that's been involved in the beta phases until now. We really appreciate the enormous feedback and support sent along the way.

And for those of you who haven't yet pre-ordered, it's not too late. Order now (or any time before August 27th) and you'll still be able to get in Early Access - a headstart on your new adventure into Eorzea.

Plus, you'll get your hands on some exclusive in-game items:

• Cait Sith Doll Minion: On sabbatical from Shinra Inc., Cait Sith will join your party as a non-combat pet.
• Mog Cap: Show your love of Final Fantasy and strut around the world of Eorzea in this Moogle themed hat. Kupo!

We'd also like to share some of the amazing artwork prepared...

Final Horizon: An Extraterrestrial RTS on PS4 and PS Vita

50°
53w ago - Eiconic Games Art and Creative Director Simon Credland announced that extraterrestrial RTS Final Horizon is incoming on both PS4 and PS Vita platforms with details below.

To quote: Hi everyone, this is Si at indie developer Eiconic Games in the UK, the same developer behind recent PS Vita title Total Recoil. We're very pleased to officially announce that our new game Final Horizon is in development for Vita and will also be our first title for the PS4.

This is an RTS game like you've never seen before. Imagine if in James Cameron's Aliens the Aliens attacked in robotic tanks and helicopters. That would be even more awesome, right? That's what we're aiming at here. Space Invaders just turned nasty.

It's great being able to talk about the project at this early stage - it gives us a chance to share some of the process of developing a game, from the earliest designs and our hopes and plans for what we would like to accomplish within the time we have to work on the project.

I've been working on some concepts and models of the alien craft.

Final Horizon is the evolution of tower defense. You won't see Insectors walking slowly in single file from left to right here. Without spoiling the surprise, they will use every tool at their disposal to attack your Colonists....

Video: Remastered Music in Final Fantasy X HD on PlayStation 3

50°
53w ago - Square-Enix Community Manager Lee Williams shared a video today showcasing the remastered music in Final Fantasy X HD on PlayStation 3 below.

To quote: You might have gathered that it's Gamescom week, so there have been lots of goodies coming in recently - like a lovely little trailer comparing some of the gameplay from the original Final Fantasy X with footage from the new HD Remaster version.

It shows off a sequence of battles, focusing on the Overdrive attacks. Check out the difference between SD and HD!

But the new thing we're showing off here, is the arranged version of the battle music!

It's worth pointing out that more than 60 tracks from the original Final Fantasy X soundtrack have been rearranged or remastered in HD audio in the new edition.

Excited much? The game's currently slated for launch this year, and will be available for PS3 and PS Vita. We'll have more soon, so keep checking back!

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII - New Trailer, Gameplay Details

300°
58w ago - Square Enix Head of Community Phil Elliott shared a new trailer and gameplay details today for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII fans below.

To quote: Time for a juicy bunch of new details for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, this time focusing on the battle system, plus a new location and costume too.

First up, some screens from Yusnaan, the city of revelry, focusing in on one area in particular - The Slaughterhouse. As the name implies, it's not the most savory of destinations... it's home to nightly battles between mighty combatants in a brutal arena. I'm pretty sure you can figure out who's going to end up getting involved in all that, eh?

Also, time to lift the lid on a nice little sync-up with Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII by way of some more costume links - this one allowing you to don the garb of the famous Miqo'te character from the forthcoming PS3 and PS4 MMO, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. You'll be able to equip the Lominsan Cutlass and Escutcheon to give you some awesome rapid attacks and leave enemies dead in your wake.

And last, but by no means least, a bit more detail on the game's battle system. In some battles, you can destroy sections of a foe, and if you succeed in disabling a specific area then the enemy will not...
