The Past, Present, and Future of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

56w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe French Community Manager Aurelie Reman shared an interview today covering the past, present, and future of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn below.

To quote: [Register or Login to view links] launches tomorrow on PS3. To celebrate the launch, PlayStation.Blog sat down with Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida to talk over A Realm Reborn's long gestation and epic ambitions.

PlayStation.Blog: Which element of A Realm Reborn is most going to surprise PlayStation players?

Naoki Yoshida: I think one of the big things will be the amazing graphics, which really push the limits of PS3's technical capabilities, as well as the fact that this is an MMORPG experience. Also, MMORPGs are most usually controlled using a keyboard and mouse, but our Cross Hot Bar system we've developed specifically for the DualShock allows for smooth and exciting play, so that's another area of interest for PS3 players.

PSB: What improvements have you made since the original PC release of Final Fantasy XIV?

Yoshida: I think that improvements can be roughly split into three areas: to regain the trust of the players, to fundamentally rebuild the game experience from the ground up, and - most...

56w ago - Square Enix Senior Online Community Manager Matt Hilton announced today that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn early access officially starts this weekend!

It's a massively exciting time for the whole team, and we'd like to thank everybody that's been involved in the beta phases until now. We really appreciate the enormous feedback and support sent along the way.

And for those of you who haven't yet pre-ordered, it's not too late. Order now (or any time before August 27th) and you'll still be able to get in Early Access - a headstart on your new adventure into Eorzea.

Plus, you'll get your hands on some exclusive in-game items:

• Cait Sith Doll Minion: On sabbatical from Shinra Inc., Cait Sith will join your party as a non-combat pet.
• Mog Cap: Show your love of Final Fantasy and strut around the world of Eorzea in this Moogle themed hat. Kupo!

We'd also like to share some of the amazing artwork prepared...

Final Horizon: An Extraterrestrial RTS on PS4 and PS Vita

50°
56w ago - Eiconic Games Art and Creative Director Simon Credland announced that extraterrestrial RTS Final Horizon is incoming on both PS4 and PS Vita platforms with details below.

To quote: Hi everyone, this is Si at indie developer Eiconic Games in the UK, the same developer behind recent PS Vita title Total Recoil. We're very pleased to officially announce that our new game Final Horizon is in development for Vita and will also be our first title for the PS4.

This is an RTS game like you've never seen before. Imagine if in James Cameron's Aliens the Aliens attacked in robotic tanks and helicopters. That would be even more awesome, right? That's what we're aiming at here. Space Invaders just turned nasty.

It's great being able to talk about the project at this early stage - it gives us a chance to share some of the process of developing a game, from the earliest designs and our hopes and plans for what we would like to accomplish within the time we have to work on the project.

I've been working on some concepts and models of the alien craft.

Final Horizon is the evolution of tower defense. You won't see Insectors walking slowly in single file from left to right here. Without spoiling the surprise, they will use every tool at their disposal to attack your Colonists....

Video: Remastered Music in Final Fantasy X HD on PlayStation 3

50°
56w ago - Square-Enix Community Manager Lee Williams shared a video today showcasing the remastered music in Final Fantasy X HD on PlayStation 3 below.

To quote: You might have gathered that it's Gamescom week, so there have been lots of goodies coming in recently - like a lovely little trailer comparing some of the gameplay from the original Final Fantasy X with footage from the new HD Remaster version.

It shows off a sequence of battles, focusing on the Overdrive attacks. Check out the difference between SD and HD!

But the new thing we're showing off here, is the arranged version of the battle music!

It's worth pointing out that more than 60 tracks from the original Final Fantasy X soundtrack have been rearranged or remastered in HD audio in the new edition.

Excited much? The game's currently slated for launch this year, and will be available for PS3 and PS Vita. We'll have more soon, so keep checking back!
