Final Fantasy XIV in Development 5 Years, to be Best Available

277w ago - During Square Enix's press conference at E3, the company talks about how their original vision for Final Fantasy XIV was to create the "best Final Fantasy available".

According to them, the best would have to be a massively multiplayer online RPG. Square Enix seems pretty proud of themselves stating that "We hope to have the best story."

Square Enix also brought up the trailer debuted at SCEA's press conference yesterday, saying that most of it was done in CG, however, some parts, such as the scene with the Galka fighting, were in-engine clips.

Final Fantasy XIV has been in development for nearly five years already. The new game will not follow the shoes of it's precedessor and use the Play Online service, frankly because it's terrible.

Square's focusing on character growth in game, developing a job system to allow for natrual growth amongst players.

277w ago - One of Sony's biggest shockers at E3's press conference was Final Fantasy XIV, the next iteration in the online Final Fantasy series to be released exclusively on PlayStation 3 and PC. The new online game takes place in the vast realm of Eorzea.

The [Register or Login to view links] for Final Fantasy XIV has launched today as well. Screenshots as well as the trailer for the game are currently up on the site.

The game is currently scheduled for a simultaneous global release in 2010 with language support in Japanese, English, French and German.

E3 2009: Final Fantasy XIV Online Announced for PS3

277w ago - The mystery massively multiplayer online game that Square Enix has been working on was revealed at the Sony press conference today. Originally under the code name Rapture, the game is officially the next one in the long-running series and is titled Final Fantasy XIV online.

Sea creatures were leaping out of water and flying reptiles soaring through the skies in the midst of an intense battle.

The impressive cutscenes showed several characters in elaborate armor and different races, and at the end of the trailer a small group of heroes band together, with a chocobo standing patiently behind them as they looked to the impressive landscape before them.





To quote: Today at E3 Square Enix and Sony Comptuer Entertainment have announced Final Fantasy XIV Online to be released exclusively on the PlayStation 3 in 2010.

Not many details are known yet, however, it is Square Enix's next MMO, possibly the codenamed Rapture title. More to come soon.
