245w ago - The producer of Final Fantasy XIII Yoshinori Kitase has told Dengeki Magazine, as reported by Kotaku, that the retail version will use nearly 100% of the PS3's power.
To quote: The producer was speaking to magazine Dengeki and stated: "Doesn't the demo use about 50 percent of its power? Of course, I think the retail version will make use of nearly 100 percent."
If you didn't realize by now, the demo for the game was already completed sometime last year and as we told you yesterday and once again reiterated by Kitase, remaining time is to 'finish up the tail end of the development.'
He also revealed that their won't be any disc swap issues due to the use of Blu-Ray and the PS3's hard drive. For those who are interseted, here are some translations of the specific questions that the interviewer asked:
Interviewer: How much of the PS3's powers do you think the game will utilize at the end?
Kitase: I think around 50% for the demo version. For the final product (just before it's released), I think it will use around 100% of its powers. It is the same situation with FFVII and FFX where we fully utilized the powers of the PS1 and PS2.
254w ago - Just under a week ago the Final Fantasy XIII countdown timers were first announced, and now thanks to the official Japanese Final Fantasy XIII Web site we have an idea of what to expect when the countdown timers finish.
While the North American and European countdowns were shrouded in mystery, the Japanese site isn't nearly as vague.
The countdown (which ends at the same time as the other two) points directly to the "trailers" section of the Web site.
So, expect to see at least one trailer once the countdown ends today!
We expect it'll be the one shown in the Closed Mega Theatre at Tokyo Game Show last year, but hopefully there'll be something new in there too. Who knows, maybe we'll even see some gameplay footage.
255w ago - The official European Final Fantasy XIII Web site (linked above) now features a ticking clock which promises to end on January 28th at 4pm GMT. What happens then? Apparently "a new vision will soon be revealed to the world."
I just got an email from Square Enix. The email contains something new about Final Fantasy 13. If you click the link HERE you can see the counter.
America also has its own countdown page. Square Enix says it's "the first of many countdowns to come."
It is unknown what exactly it could be.. the only we can do is wait!
267w ago - Famitsu has made available some new of Final Fantasy XIII screenshots which it featured in this weeks Famitsu issue.
Below is a very rough Google translation, and check out all of the pics linked above!
Crystal will be guided by a society based on the colony, "Cocoon" and the spread of primitive nature "pulse". Two of the world's stage and RPG's FFXIII. Lightning (no translate) RASHIKI blond heroine of the men, but this time the name "Snow" turned out to be.
In the FF series, VII, after the hero of many of the weather has been named. Therefore, his position is in this film is important to be inferred.
The album will be an important keyword, "Farsi" and "RUSHI". Farsi is a special existence beyond knowledge, and Cocoon is built. RUSHI chosen by the Farsi and was given the mission of the neck. The mission, from Farsi to the video, such as RUSHI "vision" will be conveyed, because it's not clear what, (no translate) by means of a controversial interpretation.
Snow was chosen as the RUSHI one of Farsi. (no translate) bulk of rugged, and things always think positive. Without dashing back in, take care of one side of good. However, without considering the consequences that a lot of action, the Lightning is probably a little clause (no translate)...
279w ago - There's apparently a big feature article in the upcoming issue of Japanese gaming mag Famitsu that talks Square Enix, Final Fantasy XIII and all that jazz.
While scans haven't hit the Internet yet, we've heard from several trusted insiders who have seen the yet-unreleased issue. It mentions that FFXIII is going to be out in Japan by next summer and in Europe/USA on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 by the end of 2009 – which pretty much what we already know.
Here's the juicy bit: According to the Famitsu piece, Microsoft is footing the bill for Square Enix's FFXIII breach of PS3 exclusivity contract. No idea how much money that entails or the exact deal Microsoft worked out with Square Enix, but the fact there is not Xbox 360 version announced for Japan is telling. Square Enix does state how porting the game to the Xbox 360 should be easy.
More interesting tidbits: It's apparently hard to tell which looks better: Star Ocean 4 or Final Fantasy XIII. Also, the company plans to focus more on PSP game development from now on.
