Video: HandCircus Introduces the Heroes in PSN Exclusive Okabu

50°
147w ago - Today HandCircus Founder Simon Oliver has introduced the heroes in the upcoming PSN exclusive game Okabu as part of the video trailer below.

To quote: Its been a couple of months since we were last here talking about OKABU, our upcoming PSN-exclusive action-adventure, and we're thrilled to be part of this month's "Only On PSN" program, sitting alongside such awesome titles as Pixeljunk Sidescroller, Eufloria and Rochard.

So the big news is that we finally have a release date! OKABU will be hitting PSN on October 18th, and there'll be a demo available on launch day that'll let you take our cloud-flying heroes for a test flight. With launch only a couple of weeks away, we wanted to share a few more details about the game, and what you'll be doing as you guide Kumulo and Nimbe through the four worlds that make up the story campaign.

Since we started development one of our biggest goals has been to pack a ton of gameplay variety in the game, from physics-play and drivable vehicles to the ability to control the creatures that fill the world. These powers come from the cloud-flying heroes in the game, which you can pick up and drop off to swap abilities on the fly.

With our previous trailers we've been keen to show off everything that you can do in the game, but I realize that...

Video: Sony Introduces Only On PSN for New PS3 Exclusive Games

50°
147w ago - PlayStation Network Senior Director Susan Panico has shared a video introducing Only On PSN today, which spotlights new PS3 exclusive games throughout October, 2011.

To quote: We're excited to announce a new program called "Only On PSN," which features brand new games that are exclusively available on PlayStation Network throughout October.

Every week starting tomorrow, October 4, you will find new titles, unique to PSN that are part of this program - games that you've likely read about, or seen during our showing at E3 2011.

You may recall our announcement a few months ago about investing $20 million in exclusive PSN titles, and the Only On PlayStation Network program showcases two titles spawning from this investment: Eufloria and Okabu.

We can't wait for you to get your hands on the Only On PSN games yourselves, so we're giving you a few special offers throughout the course of the program. First, to sweeten the deal, we'll be offering PlayStation Plus subscribers a 20% discount on each game during the first week of its availability.

Additionally, users who spend $60 or more out of their PlayStation Network/Sony Entertainment Network wallet through the month of October will get $10 back in November.

Video: PSN Exclusive Rochard in Action at Fantastic Fest 2011

149w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has posted up some new video footage today on PSN Exclusive Rochard in action at Fantastic Fest 2011.

To quote: We have showcased PSN exclusive Rochard before - we examined its gravity-based side-scrolling gameplay and Team Fortress-esque aesthetic in previous posts.

But it wasn't until the game was right in front of me at [Register or Login to view links] that the premise, art style, and gameplay all came together into a coherent whole. Being able to control your character and the gravity of the entire level takes a bit of getting used to, but after a few minutes, it clicks.

While [Register or Login to view links] is packed with clever puzzles, it's also very much an action game. See for yourself in our new video walkthrough above, which we shot at our Fantastic Fest community meetup and where Blog readers got their hands all over a host of upcoming PSN and PS3 games.

Watching Rochard in action, I was struck by the large number of ways you could dispose of enemies and obstacles: the physics-based g-lifter, the scorching plasma gun, melee blows - even dropping a box on an unsuspecting enemy's head (netting you a "Death From...

PS3 Exclusive Elevator Action Deluxe Ascends Tomorrow on PSN

400°
152w ago - Today Sony Senior Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has announced that PS3 exclusive title Elevator Action Deluxe ascends to PSN tomorrow!

To quote: Back in the 80s, it wasn't uncommon for restaurants to have a lone arcade cabinet sitting by the entrance. I've got fond, but hazy memories of a suburban Philadelphia diner where I discovered an innovative title called [Register or Login to view links]. I also recall a bacon cheeseburger...

In the 80s, most games confined you to a simple side-scrolling plane - it was akin to being on rails. Elavator Action enabled you to traverse a building vertically. It was a revelation. It was true freedom. It was, well, a different time.

So when I learned that Elevator Action Deluxe was on its way exclusively to the PlayStation Network, my nostalgia was inflamed. With the game available tomorrow, Square Enix offered me the chance to ask a few questions of Producer Yosuke Tsuda.

PlayStation.Blog: Would you categorize Elevator Action for PSN as a straight remake or more of a reinterpretation?

Yosuke Tsuda, Producer, Elevator Action Deluxe: We began the development process based on three concepts:

• Have visuals that allow people to instantly recognize this as...

Video: SSX on PlayStation 3, PS3-Exclusive Mount Fuji Level

200°
163w ago - Today SSX Creative Director Todd Batty has shared an E3 2011 video detailing the use of NASA satellite maps to create new SSX runs and footage of the PS3-exclusive Mount Fuji level!

To quote: To be honest, I was completely overwhelmed by the reaction to [Register or Login to view links] coming out of E3.

In the early days of this project, there was a lot of debate internally at [Register or Login to view links] about how many SSX fans still existed and how much interest remained in the market for games like SSX, and even some of the games we have taken further inspiration from such as Burnout and old-school Tony Hawk.

The huge reaction to our launch trailer at the [Register or Login to view links]'s was the first indication that the SSX fan base was still very much alive and as passionate as ever, but actually meeting some of these people and seeing their reaction to what we are building first-hand was truly inspirational.

Of course, with that passion comes a lot of strong opinions on what else we should be adding to the game or bringing back from the old games. We know we can't possibly please everyone, but our fans should know that we are listening to everything they say and that the...
