122w ago - What started out several months ago as a PS3 Retail to Debug WIP Project is slowly nearing completion, with GaryOPA receiving word from PlayStation 3 hacker Cyberskunk alongside a video of Rebug PS3 CFW 100% booting in Debug mode on a Retail PS3 console.
To quote: In this video you can see the PS3 first booting and then BEEPING. This is normal, if someone installs an full official DEBUG PUP via Service Mode on a Retail Console.
Next you see Cyber booting on his PS3 using a USB Jailbreak Dongle! This time the PS3 boots-up and is a fully 100% DEBUG firmware, no crashing or beeping, loads right into the XMB!
This is all possible by the Codename: REBUG team developing their own "custom payload" loaded for usage on the old v3.41 Jailbreak dongles!
From Cyberskunk: Hey Gary, The vid we sent you uses a dongle to boot the DEX COREOS on retail console as we thought that to be more conclusive since you can mimic the DEX XMB quite easily..
We can however boot it without the dongle but before everyone gets excited being able to boot the DEX COREOS and getting all of its functions up and running without rehashing (converting) your console are two completely...
As always, it's important to note that these PS3 Debug / TEST updates will currently NOT install on a retail PS3, and so it is intended for examination and comparison purposes only unless you own a Dev unit.
For those curious, running this updater on a retail PS3 will not damage it, however, it will give the following error before the installation completes: The data type is not supported. (8002F029)
131w ago - Over the last few days several new PS3 Debug / Test Firmware updates have been leaked outside of Sony Dev and have surfaced publicly courtesy of Cairobeta and ConsoleDev, however, no new SDK files have yet since the previous PS3 3.41 SDK file leak.
144w ago - Despite Sony's legal action, PS3 hacker Graf Chokolo has released some PS3 Linux Tools including PS3 Linux Hypervisor Scripts and Dispatcher Manager Utilities alongside a PlayStation 3 Debug Console Dumper.
To quote: For today’s update on graf_chokolo, we’ll get to see some new cool releases from the respected PS3 scene hacker to our very own git. You guys with the developing sense, should seriously check them out and report back to graf if you want to help improve it.
Debug console dumper for PS3 hypervisor
Different Linux scripts that enable cool features by patching PS3 hypervisor and its processes
Also, some new updates on Dispatcher Manager utilities for PS3 Linux repository.
154w ago - Following in the same direction as KaKaRoToKS PS3 Custom Firmware now utilizing PlayStation 3 PUP files, today Cyberskunk has updated PS3 Rebug Retail to Debug Firmware to 3.41E Beta v1.0.1.
From the official Rebug Site, to quote:
Rebug 3.41 1.0.1 Beta signed PUP is here..
INSTALL through XMB no jailbreak needed
UNINSTALL through XMB with Retail 3.41 update file
KNOWN BUG: When exiting from a BD/DVD or GAME when NOT in JB mode the PS3 will restart..
This only occurs when the PS3 is NOT jailbroken and NO data is lost when it happens.. I am trying to fix the issue now but thought that since it is a beta people that haven’t can at least preview Rebug and if the bug is too annoying simply update back to retail without losing any saves, game data, etc..
NOTE: It is recommended that users of the previous Rebug pack install DO NOT update with this as it will install the the annoying exit bug mentioned above.. If you have installed it and would like to return back to the pack install you will have to run the Retail 3.41 update first.. No data will be lost doing this..
