105w ago - Community Manager Kellie Parker at Sega of America has unveiled the characters today in the new Yakuza: Dead Souls video trailer below.
To quote: You may have heard that Yakuza: Dead Souls is coming to PlayStation 3 in March 2012. Like Yakuza 4, the game will let you play as four characters, including two never-before-played fan favorites: Goro Majima and Ryuji Goda. It's a Yakuza experience like none other, because this time, you'll be fighting a horde of blood-thirsty zombies.
The undead are multiplying and filling the streets of Tokyo's red light district. The area is quarantined quickly, but degenerates into a district full of terror, panic and devastation. Survivors try to flee the city, but four men rise up to protect those they care most about. If you think zombies are bad, meet the Yakuza.
Playable for the first time in Yakuza: Dead Souls, Goro Majima is nuts about zombie movies. He's so excited to be killing off zombies that when you're playing as Majima, you'll be picking fights with zombies, instead of just merely defending yourself. Now that's badass.
You probably thought Ryuji Goda was dead after Yakuza 2. But you'd be wrong, and not because he's a reanimated zombie back to munch your...
113w ago - Sega of America Associate Brand Manager Aaron Webber has confirmed today alongside a video trailer that Yakuza: Dead Souls on PS3 is heading to the US.
To quote: Greetings Sony fans and Yakuza enthusiasts! Today is an exciting day, both for PS3 gamers and for us here at SEGA - the PS3 exclusive, Yakuza: Dead Souls is coming to the west!
It seems like only yesterday we were all sitting on the edge of our Sony-branded seats, hoping desperately that Yakuza 3 would see the light of day overseas. In the years since, we've seen not only the US release of Yakuza 3, but Yakuza 4, too - and, thanks to the fantastic support of fans and PS3 gamers like you, we're proud to now announce the latest chapter in the Yakuza franchise. What was once Of The End is now Dead Souls!
So, what is Yakuza: Dead Souls all about? I traveled to the top of the mountains and spent two weeks meditating to bring you the answers. In the end, that failed, so I just played the entire game instead.
It was awesome, and in doing so, I found that this game is a mix of:
• Zombies in Tokyo
• Yakuza with guns
• Beautiful Hostesses
And while I'm not able to reveal how much content from the Japanese version is coming over,...
114w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has revealed some of the darkest demons in Dark Souls, which will officially be hitting the PlayStation 3 entertainment system today!
To quote: "All the monsters I design, from Demon's Souls to Dark Souls, are beautiful to me no matter how gruesome their appearance."
Dark Souls Director Hidetaka Miyazaki shared this bit of insight with me earlier this year in an interview and the quote has bounced through my brain for more than six months.
Since then, I've been wanting to get a closer look at the game's stunning creature designs, all of which are plucked from the further reaches of Miyazaki's fevered imagination.
Luckily, today's the day. For the viewing pleasure of readers, From Software and Namco Bandai have collected a host of rare concept artwork accompanied by design notes from Miyazaki himself. Miyazaki also wanted to pass along a greeting just for readers:
"I am hoping all of you experience meaningful deaths many times in the game. I know that the game is challenging, but I want you to keep trying to overcome any difficulty you face in the game. And please feel a great sense of achievement when overcoming a difficulty!"
Read on for the full gallery. If you do pick up Dark Souls, keep...
131w ago - XSEED Localization Specialist Tom Lipschultz has announced today that Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls is now live on PSN.
To quote: Few game series have as long and storied a history as Wizardry, which is the same age as Mario and helped inspire entire gaming genres.
Much has changed in this series over the years, but the base formula has remained the same: create your avatar, hire some help at the local guild, accept a quest or two, then crawl through a seemingly endless maze of corridors, traps, treasure chests and secret passageways... all in glorious first-person 3D!
But do mind the monsters. Everything from adorable Vorpal Bunnies to giant dragons, to a demonic face made out of corpses is traipsing through these same cavernous depths, always just around the next corner. Once you're spotted, it's time to fight - and if you're not strong, clever or fast enough to take them down, you're going to wind up as a spot on the wall - like all the others.
In the end, it comes down to tweaking your stats, finding or buying new equipment, keeping track of your whereabouts, exploring thoroughly and strategizing like there's no tomorrow. Think Etrian Odyssey, or Dark Spire, or... well... Wizardry!
There are 10 main characters to choose from, consisting...
148w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has shared a Q&A session and video featuring Dark Souls PS3 dubbed Variety is the Spice of Death today.
To quote: Fans of 2009's PS3-exclusive RPG Demon's Souls are sure to have questions about Dark Souls, which is being produced under the watchful eye of Demon's Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Though the game was formally revealed just days ago, I had a rare opportunity to speak directly with Miyazaki about his plans for Dark Souls. We discussed the game's soul-crushing difficulty (it's going to get harder, not easier), his favorite new feature (a new form of "emotional communication" via Beacon Fires), and the games he's most excited to play in 2011 (hint: UNCHARTED 3).
Sid Shuman: Would you describe Dark Souls as a sequel to Demon's Souls, or a spiritual successor? Does Dark Souls reside in the same universe as Demon's Souls?
Hidetaka Miyazaki, director, Dark Souls: Dark Souls is not a sequel to Demon's Souls by any means. However, it's created by the same producers and director and so the ideologies, concepts, and themes have carried over and are similar. It's a totally new game...
