Final Fantasy XIV in Development 5 Years, to be Best Available

250°
268w ago - During Square Enix's press conference at E3, the company talks about how their original vision for Final Fantasy XIV was to create the "best Final Fantasy available".

According to them, the best would have to be a massively multiplayer online RPG. Square Enix seems pretty proud of themselves stating that "We hope to have the best story."

Square Enix also brought up the trailer debuted at SCEA's press conference yesterday, saying that most of it was done in CG, however, some parts, such as the scene with the Galka fighting, were in-engine clips.

Final Fantasy XIV has been in development for nearly five years already. The new game will not follow the shoes of it's precedessor and use the Play Online service, frankly because it's terrible.

Square's focusing on character growth in game, developing a job system to allow for natrual growth amongst players.

Best Buy to Receive New 80GB PS3 SKU After E3, Will Cost $399

350°
269w ago - It looks as though Sony is planning to introduce yet another PS3 SKU in coming weeks at E3 2009.

Some believe it will be a redesigned Slim PS3 while others think it will have the same cosmetic design, but will boast different features.

We still don't have the specifics, but this leaked pic of the Best Buy database (below) essentially confirms that a new PlayStation 3 SKU is on the way. It's set to go active after E3 next week and while the price is still set at $399 for an 80GB machine, it's also labeled as a "Limited Edition" bundle.

This package will include two unknown games and it quickly reminds us of Target's PS3 bundle they offered after the GDC; it included both Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm. The release date is listed as June 9, which is less than a week after E3 concludes.

Now, this news may be disappointing to those of you who are hoping for a price drop announcement, but any new bundle deals are always appreciated by the savvy consumer. This package may also be exclusive to Best Buy - although we can't be sure at this point - which means it may or may not make a big splash at Sony's E3 press conference.

There's really no way of knowing the...

EA is Working on the Best FPS Ever, New Medal of Honor Update?

100°
272w ago - In late 2007, Electronic Arts Los Angeles took a crack at returning its Command & Conquer franchise to the first-person shooter genre with Tiberium.

Ultimately, however, the project proved to be a doomed venture, with EA suspending work on the game less thab a year later because it was "not on track to meet the high-quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label," according to a company representative.

Now, it appears as if EALA isn't going to let one canceled game stand in the way of its FPS ambitions. In a new job posting for an art director, the developer revealed that it is at work on "a brand new first-person shooter project in the very beginning stages of development."

The job requisition gave no indication as to which themes would be incorporated into the project, saying only that it will be "the best project we've ever worked on."

EALA is perhaps best known for its World War II-themed Medal of Honor shooters, a franchise that has been dormant since 2007's Medal of Honor: Airborne and Medal of Honor Heroes 2. Of note, in an interview in August 2008, EA Games president Frank Gibeau confirmed that the publisher had future plans for the franchise, saying, "You'll hear more about Medal of Honor in the future. I can guarantee you that."

Man Buys $2000 MacBook Pro at Best Buy, Gets Only a Brick

273w ago - Well here we go again; less than a week after a boy [Register or Login to view links] a Nintendo DS box with rocks in it, a similar incident has happened to someone buying a MacBook Pro at Best Buy.

This time however, instead of finding rocks, the buyer received a nice red brick. As delighted as he was, I think he would have rather got his $2000 MacBook Pro.

So far no one has taken responsibility for the problem, and it doesn't look like anybody will; Best Buy says the box was factory sealed when sold, and Apple hasn't said anything yet.

Not promising for the guy and his brick if you ask me!

PlayStation 3 is the Best Selling Gaming Console in Japan

200°
273w ago - Sony must be pretty pleased with its performance on its home market and thinking about how it could replicate it all over the world.

The PlayStation 3 has become the best selling gaming platform in Japan, probably because of the release of the Blu-ray version of the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children movie, which is packed with a demo version of the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII.

The PlayStation 3 has seen an increase of 42,000 units in sales, to reach 62,527, a number normally reserved for the Nintendo DS or for the PlayStation Portable. The Advent Children Blu-ray movie sold more than 270,000 units in its first week on shelves, which is extremely impressive compared with the best sold videogame of the week, which only moved 142,000 units.

The Nintendo DS is in second place, selling 44,725 units as the phasing out of the DS Lite, which is being replaced by the DSi, continues. The PlayStation Portable saw a dip in sales of less than 1,000 units, reaching just over 40,000 to stay in third place.

Worryingly for Nintendo, the Wii is also continuing its descending trend, with the home console only selling around 13,000 units, which is about 2,000 down from last week. It's now in fourth place, just ahead of the Xbox 360, which sold 8,652 units in one week. There are over 8 million Wiis...
