Sony Patent Uncovered That May Suppress Second-Hand Game Sales

108w ago - Previously it was rumored that Sony was planning to combat PS3 piracy with Blu-ray disc serial keys, and today gofreak uncovered a [Register or Login to view links] ([Register or Login to view links]) which may suppress second-hand game sales on PS4 as well.

Below are the details, to quote: So I believe this is interesting in light of a prior rumor about Sony limiting second hand game sales on PS4. Sony has been working on new technology for limiting used game sales, and has applied for a patent. The patent was filed 09/12/2012 by SCEJ.

Perhaps this work is where the rumor came from. Or perhaps it independently corroborates the rumor. Anyway, here's some of the relevant detail:

"According to the present embodiment, realized is the electronic content processing system that reliably restricts the use of electronic content dealt in the second-hand markets. As a result, the dealing of electronic content in the second-hand markets is suppressed, which in turn supports the redistribution of part of proceeds from sales of the electronic content to the developers. To quote: Hello everyone! First off I want to say special thanks to aerosoul94, we discovered this few months ago, we did a lot of mods, and now this is the time for release!

Ok, so now I'll explain how to edit memory of PS3 games in real time.

Tools needed:

  • A PS3 with a DEX firmware
  • ProDG Target Manager and ProDG Debugger (they got leaked, see HERE)

  • The ELF file of the game you want to mod

Your PS3 must be wired, it will not work if you're using WiFi

Ok first, start ProDG Target Manager and go on "Search For Targets" then press the refresh button to start scanning, if all is ok your PS3 should be detected, just right click on it and move it to "Debugging Station" group then double click on it, it will add your PS3 into your targets list.

PS3 Game List v2.0 Manager for Windows Update is Released

110w ago - Following up on his previous revisions, today PlayStation 3 developer wborland0 has updated PS3 Game List Manager to version v2.0 for Windows x64 users with the changes below.

To quote from his blog: In time for the holidays, another revision bringing PS3 Game List to v2.0. The idea behind this release was to update the framework supporting the application, while implementing all the possible features (most suggested by users) fitting the time frame.

This version implements a very useful feature: support for RAR files (including multivolume and password protected archives). That means users can retire WinRar for their decompressing needs, as PS3 Game List is now able to load game info from RARs and extract data as well (up to 5% faster than WinRar, no less).

This functionality allows users to manage their compressed games, in addition to their standard game folders, games stored as ISO files and PKGs (PSN games and Homebrew), pushing the ‘all-in-one...

110w ago - Following up on his previous release, today PlayStation 3 homebrew developer condorstrike has shared a video preview of a PS3 homebrew game he's working on entitled Pointman below.

From his blog, to quote: Hi guys, here’s a preview of my PS3 Homebrew game “Pointman the Akkadian wars”

It is still in development and this video is more of a teaser, since every time I give myself an ETA I keep adding new stuff and keep delaying the release.

The video is of the main menu and story intro, no gameplay (WIP) hope you like it. caw!
