Nintendo Shares Details on Wii no Ma Channel Video Service

50°
295w ago - Nintendo has provided some details and the first image of their upcoming Wii video service. This will not be a movie download store, rather a channel along the lines of the Weather Channel offering free and paid content.

To quote: The new service will be titled "Wii no Ma Channel." Different from other Wii media services, this one is not a WiiWare title, but an actual Channel along the lines of the Weather Channel and Fortune Telling Channel. Wii owners will be able to download it for free this Spring from the Wii Shopping Channel.

As reported in Nikkei, this is a joint project between Nintendo and Dentsu. Nintendo is working on the development and management of the service. Dentsu is negotiating with a variety of companies to bring original content to the service.

Nintendo didn't share specifics on the content, but this does seem to be a family-oriented service. The name "Wii no Ma" is a fusion of the Japanese expression "ochanoma" and "Wii," and, according to the Nintendo notice, can be taken to mean "A video experience space where you can enjoy communication when gathered with your friends and family in front of your living room television."

EA Releases Details on Reduction of Facilities and Work Force

50°
296w ago - Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) today announced further details on a restructuring plan which will include consolidating facilities and reducing the work force.

Press Release: REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Dec 19, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) - EA expects the restructuring plan will result in annual cost savings of approximately $120 million and restructuring charges of approximately $55-65 million over the next several quarters.

The plan is intended to reduce EA's worldwide work force by approximately 10 percent or 1,000 people. The majority of these actions will be completed by March 31, 2009. This represents a four percent increase from the six percent reduction EA announced on October 30, 2008.

The restructuring also calls for consolidation or closure of at least nine studio and publishing locations. Among the facilities to be consolidated is the Black Box Studio facility in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Black Box development teams and associated game franchises will move to the nearby EA studio location in Burnaby, British Columbia.

EA is implementing a plan to narrow its product portfolio to focus on hit games with higher margin opportunities. The company remains committed to taking creative risks, investing in new games, leading the industry in the growing mobile and online businesses,...

First Uncharted 2 Images and Details Available for PlayStation 3

200°
297w ago - Courtesy of -ShadowBlade- via GameTrailers, today comes the first Uncharted 2 image scans and details for the PlayStation 3 as follows:

I found it searching on Google, also new info provide by theantidote619:

- The biggest thing in the article IMO is that there's a new girl named Chloe Frazer. GI asked about Elena and Sully's return but they had no comment.
- The story is about looking for the ships that Marco Polo "lost" while returning home to Italy.
- Melee combat is more dynamic now.
- They mentioned they were using only 30% of the PS3's power with Drake's Fortune and are planning to use nearly 100% with Among Thieves.
- A demo was shown to GI with Drake going through a city (I believe in Nepal), and he's stealthily taking out guards and escaping the city.
- Nolan North returns to be Drake and Chloe Frazer is played by Claudia Black (Stargate SG-1, Farscape).
- The Sixaxis mechanics were ditched for such things as throwing grenades.
- One of the weapons revealed is a rocket launcher that Chloe uses (might only be for the cinematic).
- There are no load screens.
- The score is being composed by Greg Edmonson (same guy from the first one).
- Weapons can be used in any stance (running, behind cover, hanging, climbing a wall, etc.).

God of War 3 for PlayStation 3 Details Unveiled!

100°
298w ago - Was recently sent a pretty detailed run down of what to expect from God of War 3... This is an actual build of the game and not the trailer we're all set to see at the VGA's.

I am told that it will only be a very short glimpse of what the game is going to offer and will probably be further edited down to about 20 seconds if that. He thinks it could be so edited that if you blink you might miss it... 10 seconds, even.

Sadly, I'm not able to go into as much detail here. It sucks, I know. But, at the request of the man in question and in hopes of building a better relationship with him in the future I will honor that request.

What I can talk about is this:

Graphically it is going to set a new standard. Easily eclipsing the detail in Gears of War 2 and uncharted... God of War 3 is set to offer up the most cinematic experiences ever! He was over the moon about how good it looked... he said there is nothing that comes remotely close. "The detail is crafted with highest of care and the animations sell the experience like nothing you've ever seen".

He was told that the game will be 1080P and 60FPS... He then said it was obvious the footage he seen wasn't, though. So, if they're shooting for 1080P and 60fps and haven't hit it yet that's a good thing... since the game already...

New Final Fantasy: Dissidia Details Emerge for PSP

50°
298w ago - IGN has gone through Famitsu's 11-page feature on Final Fantasy: Dissidia and translated several new details recently.

Square Enix apparently considered putting a FFXII character in the game, but were concerned it would solidify "the character's image and skills in players' minds and thus affecting the main FFXIII".

Famitsu also revealed that gamers will be able to choose a Memory Stick installation of 245, 373, or 528 megabytes. Finally, Ikeda, the main programmer for the game, says that the 245MB install will allow "smooth battles."

To quote: If all that isn't enough to make you wonder how Square Enix is fitting Dissidia on one UMD, here's something that should do the trick. Famitsu also reveals that Dissidia has a "Command Battle" mode of play.

Here, the normal action-based battle system is replaced with a menu system, allowing players who aren't so hot on action games to still engage in combat.

The menu selections seem to match up with the main battle system, with "Fight" resulting in a Brave Attack, and "Super" ("Hissatsu" in Japanese) resulting in an HP Attack. When you select a command, your character continues to perform it. You can press L or R to flee when your opponent attacks.

It's possible to clear the main story mode using command-based...
