Video: New Fallout 3 XBox 360 Patch Versus PS3 Comparison

300°
302w ago - Fallout 3 is one of the most controversial cross-platform projects of 2008, the PlayStation 3 version in particular comes to mind for plenty of criticism to its often-poor frame rate.

It turned out that Xbox 360 version, despite its superior frame rate and full-on 4x MSAA, had flaws of its own - notably some inferior textures when viewed close up, along with a lack of specular maps on the monsters and characters, resulting in a somewhat flat look compared to the other versions of the game.

As it happens, the latest Fallout 3 patch isn't just preparation code for the upcoming DLC... one of the small issues with the launch 360 game has been addressed: the specular maps are back.

Perhaps the omission was simply a bug? Or perhaps not, because while the effect has been replaced in the more obvious locations, elsewhere it is still absent.

But regardless, it's an obviously welcome addition for 360 owners, and we presume that the upcoming DLC will be looking as good as it can possibly be.

Video: Has Sony's PlayStation Home Been Hacked?

700°
302w ago - It's too early to tell if this is just a bug, glitch, or if someone actually hacked Sony's PlayStation Home server to change the message for all PS3's, however, what is confirmed thus far is that numerous people have experienced the same issue.

That being said, lorello1978 shared a video on YouTube which states the following, via rough translation:

I turned on the PS3, I started Home, I did the upgrade required. Restarted the console, at one point turning in Home in my house, I noticed a terrible slowdown, as to seem a lag of the modem.

Not understanding why and thinking: "I like the fiber optic connection and I have a 320GB inside ... why !?!?"

I open the console window in Home and I go to see the messages and news, to see what improvements have brought the new upgrade...

Then I read these things a little reassuring that you see in the video. Someone knows what happens? I am the only one?

Video: Tom Clancy's HAWX: Demo Analysis for PS3 & XBox 360

100°
302w ago - The Xbox 360 demo of Ubisoft's take on the Ace Combat-style arcade flight sim genre has been available for some time, but due to 'technical issues', the PlayStation 3 code only made it to the Store last week.

It's worth pointing out that the PS3 code does come with a disclaimer saying that the demo is not representative of the final code, but we find it hard to believe that core elements of the engine such as the anti-aliasing method and lighting model will change that much in the final game, especially when it's out in the US today. Suffice to say, we'll be looking at that too though in the fullness of time.

As it is, demos are released to give you a taste of what you'll be buying when the game comes to the shops, so with that in mind, here's our take on the HAWX sampler on both PS3 and 360.

The game runs at native 720p on both consoles, with the 360 code running full-on 4x MSAA, while PS3 is using nothing but horizontal blur. This noticeably deteriorates visual clarity and doesn't really smooth edges much at all.

There's also a lighting difference as you can see from the shots, the excellent use of light bloom from the 360 code is nowhere to be seen on the PS3 version.

Video: Watchmen: The End is Nigh Interview & Chat Tomorrow

50°
302w ago - Social Media Senior Specialist Chris Morell shared a Watchmen: The End is Nigh interview video today as well as news on a live chat session tomorrow, to quote:

One of the most popular graphic novels of all time hits the big-screen this Friday, with 300 director Zack Snyder at the helm.

So while I am figuring out a way to snag IMAX tickets for Friday, Watchmen fever is spreading to the PS3, with the downloadable title coming to PlayStation Network this Thursday.

Jeff and I recently visited with Warner for a little hands-on time with the game, and I grabbed associate producer Jerry Pritchard for some questions.

And Jerry was nice enough to agree to come on back to the Blog tomorrow from 11am - 12 noon for a live chat about Watchmen: The End is Nigh for PSN. So get your questions ready because we're doin' this all over again!
