The Five Best Trends in Ever-Evolving Video Gaming

100°
298w ago - Gaming, like all mediums in existence, is constantly evolving. The Internet is almost unrecognizable from just 10 years ago.

Television programming has changed greatly, including such technologies as TiVo (DVR) and the unfortunate rise of reality shows on nearly every channel except Nickelodeon.

May God help us all. In the meantime, there are some trends we have noticed appearing in a lot of our favorite videogames, and those trends show a bright future for our favorite hobby. Some may disagree that these are good things, but they are indeed a part of gaming these days for better or worse.

5. Instant Co-Operative Play

Back in the day, co-op modes would typically split the screen in two in order to allow one player to move independently of the other. Split screens, however, were never very popular as they cut out the potential field of vision for both players and were often seen as a necessary nuisance. Since the Sega DreamCast, however, friends have been able to connect online and play the same game side-by-side free of the split-screen annoyance that once plagued the experience.

Fable II is an example of a new kind of "instant co-op" that will probably be seen in many console games to come.

Co-operative play has continued through the generations,...

Video: Impressive Killzone 2 Destructibility Footage for PS3

100°
298w ago - Outside of its immaculate texture work, character models, and animations, Killzone 2 features an incredibly realistic destructibility engine allowing users to decimate specific objects and structures, watching them crumble into ruins.

In this latest line of footage, the player shows off some of the destructibility seen in the online multiplayer beta, shooting everything from pipes to hurling a grenade and razing the side of a support pillar.

Watch as chunks of concrete collapse to the ground and red-hot bullet holes penetrate the ground floor, spitting up debris. Killzone 2 is set for release exclusively on PlayStation 3 in February 2009

Top 10 Greatest Phrases from a Video Game Character's Mouth

250°
298w ago - I've said it time and time again, video game storylines suck. But that doesn't mean that the character's in those horrible storylines can't come up with pearls of wisdom (Or is it just comic gold?) when they open up their mouths.

Below are, in my opinion, the ten greatest phrases to ever come out of a video game character's mouth. I'm sure I'm missing a few here, but that's what comment boards are for. So here they are, the top ten phrases ever.

See if you can close your eyes and remember just how they sounded the first time you first heard them. Just don't do it while you're driving or operating heavy machinery. You should usually keep your eyes open for stuff like that.

10. "Waka Waka Waka, etc." –Pac-man
Fauzy from the Muppet Babies, is that you? Nope, it's just everybody's favorite yellow one-third-of-a-pizza chomping down on pellets while avoiding ghosts, or Klan members, or whatever, Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde happen to be.

If you're good enough to get past the first few rounds, you can even almost forget that Pac-Man is rude enough to talk while he's eating, as the sound just becomes natural after awhile. Don't forget the power pellet on your way around the bend!

9. "Aaaaaarrrrriiiiieeeesssss!!!!!"...
