Video: PSP Debug Firmware Running on a Retail PSP Console

500°
293w ago - Well there is not much information yet pertaining to how this was done, but video proof has been provided as can be seen below courtesy of 0JOhnJAck0.

Now what is the significance of this you may ask. First off, I think its pretty obvious that this could not be done before. So this demonstrates just how far devs have gone with their knowledge of the PSP.

Of course one cannot help but to wonder if this will lead to any discoveries on Sony's other gaming device, the PS3.

Until more information about how exactly this was achieved on the PSP is released, we can only hope that it may assist in getting PS3 debug firmware running on the retail PS3.

Valve: Video Game Pirates Are Just Underserved Customers

200°
293w ago - In an interesting take on video game pirates, Valve's Jason Holtman sees them as 'tons of undiscovered customers'.

Obviously they think pirates can be turned into legitimate consumers and this was linked to an argument that they have been under-served in some way, hence turning to piracy.

To quote: The final sacred cow that Holtman took a stab at was the issue of piracy. "There's a big business feeling that there's piracy," he says. But the truth is: "Pirates are underserved customers."

"When you think about it that way, you think, 'Oh my gosh, I can do some interesting things and make some interesting money off of it.'"

"We take all of our games day-and-date to Russia," Holtman says of Valve. "The reason people pirated things in Russia," he explains, "is because Russians are reading magazines and watching television -- they say 'Man, I want to play that game so bad,' but the publishers respond 'you can play that game in six months...maybe.' "

"We found that our piracy rates dropped off significantly," Holtman says, explaining that Valve makes sure their games are on the shelves in Moscow and St. Petersberg, in Russian, when they release it to North America and Western Europe.

Video: Explanation of the Incapsulation Method for PS3

250°
293w ago - Earlier today ps3hack89 dropped by our Chatbox to let us know of a new video by Giulio19992. For reference, don't forget to use the [Register or Login to view links] feature also guys, as it makes things a lot easier for the Staff here.

Moving on, the video is titled "Explanation Incapsulation Method" for the PS3, and attempts to outline what he believes is the PS3's game execution procedure, normal compared to the encapsulation method. Video is below, courtesy of YouTube!

Some thoughts on it: The video (why use a video, its two frames, use jpegs next time - was a waste of two minutes), is a mix of what we knew back in 2006 and misinformation. Of course when the system starts, and an executable is started, higher level functions authenticate it, and decides if it is valid or not, and passes it on - "Slide 1".

"Slide 2" consists of what would happen when modified, it looks QUITE a bit like a dumbed-down version of what every PS3 goes through when running a game with a patch, with the exception that the order is completely wrong.

Finally, we have no idea why .PKG is plastered all over, as soon as the PKG is installed on the PS3 it ceases to exist, it gets extracted and its...

Guide: Convert DVD to MKV HD Video to Keep the High Quality

200°
294w ago - I figured I would share this here since I just went through this myself.. Many people complain that when they convert DVD to video and watch it on laptop or PC the quality gets bad.

How to resolve this issue? We can do so by converting DVD to MKV and other HD video formats. These HD videos are often bigger than standard video and maintain the high quality.

Part 1: What's MKV HD video?

An MKV HD video file is a Matroska file, the Matroska Multimedia Container is an open standard free Container format. It is similar in conception to other containers like AVI, MP4 or ASF, but is entirely open in specification, And the size is often much more bigger than common video for the HD code methods.

Part 2: How to convert DVD to MKV HD video to keep the high quality?

Here I listed a few good DVD to MKV converters I found on Google, they all have good output quality, can input DVD disk, DVD folder, IFO, ISO and support MKV HD video, but you can select a better one with special feature for your needs.

[Register or Login to view links]: This DVD to MKV converter has been upgrade recently and added MT2S, TS, TP, TRP and MKV HD video formats into its output formats.
