307w ago - It looks like LittleBigPlanet will be gracing you with it's own bundle.

Sony will be really pushing LittleBigPlanet as one of it's top PS3's exclusive games late this fall.

It comes at no surprise that the game will be combine with a 80GB console system and will retail for € 399, which at this time in the currency exchange market would translate to $585.43 U.S., the system and the game would also be shipped with the Dualshock 3 controller and is now available for pre-order.

Uncharted PS3 Bundle Arrives this Fall, Includes 160GB HDD

309w ago - With the PlayStation 3 40GB model slowly being phased out, it's time to make room for a brand-new addition to the PS3 hardware lineup - an Uncharted Drake's Fortune PS3 bundle.

In North America specifically, it's slated to hit in November at an MSRP of $499.99 and includes the aforementioned game, a voucher for PSN title PAIN, a DualShock 3 wireless controller, and a 160GB hard drive.

Over in Europe, the bundle is due out October 31. Configuration-wise there will be no difference, aside from the fact that it'll include an "additional PSN title," according to SCEE, which may or may not be PAIN.

Sony was quick to mention that this bundle will retain "all the same functionality" as the new 80GB that's popping up on retail shelves here in the U.S. That means no backwards compatibility, but you should be used to that now.

80GB PS3 Confirmed for Europe, Arrives August 27, 2008

314w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe head David Reeves told members of the European press at private event held in Santa Monica that the 80GB equipped PlayStation 3 Core Pack - first announced by Jack Tretton at the company's E3 presser - will hit all PAL territories on August 27, with the exception of Russia.

The unit will cost £299 (€399), with additional bundle configurations set to arrive between September and mid-December at varying price points.

Just like in North America, this model will replace the 40GB, while retaining all of its functionality. So - yes, that means no backwards compatibility.

To quote: "In PAL, we will introduce an 80GB PS3 80Gb on August 27th. It will be a simultaneous launch across all PAL territories, and reach Russia two weeks later, due to compliance issues. "It will cost 399 Euros or £299. Promotional bundles will arrive between mid-September and mid-December at various prices.

"The 40GB model will be replaced by 80GB. Don't ask if we're going to go down in price on 40GB - the answer is no.

"This has been planned by Kaz [Hirai] for months. There are very few 40GB models left - especially in UK. We predict we'll be out of stock by the time we launch."

When Windows 7 Arrives, will your PC be Ready?

50°
315w ago - It seems like a straightforward question. However, in the aftermath of the Vista debacle, where many systems that were certified as "Vista Capable" proved to be anything but, the process of vetting new Windows-compatible hardware has taken on new complexity.

You simply cannot count on Microsoft to provide an honest assessment of Windows system requirements. And as the "Vista Capable" experience has shown us, Microsoft's vendor partners are no better.

Hence InfoWorld's motivation in developing the Windows 7 Compatibility Testing widget: the need for a truly independent tool that can evaluate a PC's suitability to run the next version of Windows.

By taking marketing, politics, and vendor-speak out of the equation, we're hoping to provide you with an honest assessment of your PC's runtime environment, factoring in hardware configuration, current stress levels, and workload composition.

How to Get Started
Note: As with all Windows Sentinel widgets, you'll first need to register for your free Windows Sentinel account, which my company (Devil Mountain Software) developed based on years of experience benchmarking system performance...

Sony's DualShock 3 Controller for PS3 finally arrives

50°
320w ago - When Sony Computer Entertainment's behemoth, the PlayStation3 (PS3) launched locally back in March last year, one missing feature from earlier PlayStation console systems was the rumbling controller.

While the PS3's new wireless SIXAXIS controller debuted in all its motion-sensing glory, the vibrating feature wasn't included due to legal action at the time that saw both Microsoft and Sony being sued for a patent infringement to do with the technology both of their consoles controllers used. While Microsoft settled out of court by purchasing shares in the company Immersion, Sony chose to fight on defending their case.

Though fast forward a few months and $100 million later and Sony too has settled its differences with Immersion, which cleared the path for them to release the game controller that should have shipped with the PS3 in the first place, the DualShock 3.

Featuring exactly the same physical look, shape and tilting-goodness as the SIXAXIS controller, the only things that tell these two apart are a subtle insignia and the weight difference with the heavier DualShock 3 now a more comfortable 190g.

There's currently over 60 PS3 titles that support the DualShock3, either automatically or after a downloadable patch and naturally any new titles are going to be rumble-ready.
