Video: Wanted: Weapons of Fate XBox 360 & PS3 Comparison

285w ago - While PlayStation 3's first party titles generally seem to be technically excellent, we've lost count of the amount of multi-format games that offer tangibly superior performance on Xbox 360.

However, the new Wanted: Weapons of Fate demo appears to be the exception that proves the rule - based on our analysis of the newly released demo code, it's superior on PS3 in almost every regard.

Let's not get carried away though - this game is no technical masterpiece on either system, rendering at 1120Ă–640 on both platforms. However, of the two releases, only the PS3 game is v-locked, with the 360 code exhibiting a great deal of off-putting screen tear.

A short clip of slow-motion video showing that Wanted is indeed v-locked on PS3, with image quality compromised on Xbox 360 due to lack of v-lock.

The improvements on the PlayStation 3 code go beyond the simple matter of v-sync and extend into additional levels of bling added to the basic graphics. It's also notable in that despite being sub-HD, the upscaling on both platforms is pretty much like-for-like. PS3's software scaling solutions are usually less than optimal.

Overall, while the game itself isn't exactly triple-A material, it's...

Video: A Flock for Every Season PS3 Trailer Now Available

285w ago - Flock is drawing closer and closer to release, and to tide wannabe UFO drivers over, Capcom has made available a new video dubbed the Flock: New Seasons Night Trailer.

To quote: It focuses on the different seasons found in the game, but also shows us one of the game's power-ups in use, as well as the environmental interaction we've come to anticipate from the title.

It's enough to get us through another overcast day.

Video: Debut Split/Second Trailer for PlayStation 3 Available

200°
285w ago - As promised, last night's episode of [Register or Login to view links] brought the first look at Pure developer Black Rock Studio's upcoming racing title, Split/Second, for the PS3.

To quote: Keighley's ominous warning seems accurate - it appears to be trying to give Burnout a run for its money. However, rather than participating in high-speed (probably illegal) street racing for your own amusement, it looks like Split/Second will be placing your automotive exploits in front of an enraptured televised audience.

Split/Second will also add a neat gameplay element hinted at in the trailer - it looks like players will be able to "trigger" destructive events on the track in order to impede their opponents (or themselves, if they're not on top of their respective games).

Watch the [Register or Login to view links] if you want an example. The developers promise further info about the game next Wednesday.

Video: New Fallout 3 XBox 360 Patch Versus PS3 Comparison

300°
286w ago - Fallout 3 is one of the most controversial cross-platform projects of 2008, the PlayStation 3 version in particular comes to mind for plenty of criticism to its often-poor frame rate.

It turned out that Xbox 360 version, despite its superior frame rate and full-on 4x MSAA, had flaws of its own - notably some inferior textures when viewed close up, along with a lack of specular maps on the monsters and characters, resulting in a somewhat flat look compared to the other versions of the game.

As it happens, the latest Fallout 3 patch isn't just preparation code for the upcoming DLC... one of the small issues with the launch 360 game has been addressed: the specular maps are back.

Perhaps the omission was simply a bug? Or perhaps not, because while the effect has been replaced in the more obvious locations, elsewhere it is still absent.

But regardless, it's an obviously welcome addition for 360 owners, and we presume that the upcoming DLC will be looking as good as it can possibly be.
