Pongus: First Legal PS3 Homebrew Game is Now Available

400°
195w ago - Today PSGroove reports that the first legal (not built with the leaked PS3 SDK) PS3 homebrew game dubbed Pongus for PlayStation 3 JailBreak users is now available courtesy of CodeZombie.

Download: Pongus PS3 Homebrew Game with Source Code

To quote: This is the first PS3 homebrew game to use no copyrighted code. The game was coded from the ground up, entirely with the PSL1GHT SDK. Here is what CodeZombie had to say about his release:

Pongus is a simple pong clone, demonstrating the basic features of the PSL1GHT SDK.

Right now, it's in a playable state, with enemy AI, collision detection, Speed advancement and simple controls.

I am aware that there is already a much better pong clone available for the PS3, but that package contains leaked Sony code, and is illegal to distribute.

This package is the opposite, written completely with the Open PSL1GHT SDK. No Sony code was used to write this game, and thus, is able to be freely distributed, source and all."

Guide to Compile PS3 Homebrew via PSL1GHT Open-Source SDK

550°
195w ago - Today Scognito has [Register or Login to view links] a guide on how to setup a build environment for compiling and running PS3 homebrew using the PSL1GHT open-source SDK.

To quote: With the breaking out of PSJailbreak this summer, the homebrew sceene didn't wait so long to appear on PlayStation 3.

So we are finally talking about the possibility to run our own unsigned code, using any of the available dongles (you can even build one yourself).

Before actually start writing our application it is necessary to build our development envirement. For doing this we need a toolchain and a SDK: I'll use ps3chain and PSL1GHT.

The latter one is very young (project started 29-oct-10) and continously mantained, so the are chances that something may not work as you would expect.

Updating git daily, reporting bugs and contributing is appreciated

Prerequisites

First of all we need to set our PS3 dev directory and some system variables, as well as all software needed to build our toolchain.

This guide is written for user with Ubuntu 10.10 32bit,...

700°
196w ago - A few weeks ago AerialX started the open-source PS3 homebrew SDK PSL1GHT, and today he has [Register or Login to view links] that PS3Load is available (essentially Wiiload for PS3) to run SELF programs via wireless or wired network shortly followed by a bugfix update and adding support for sending zips for apps that need data files.

Download: PS3Load for PS3 / PS3Load (PKG) for PS3 / PS3Load (and PKG) for PS3 v0.2 / PS3Load for PS3 v0.2a

To quote: "As an example I wrote a program called PS3Load.

For those familiar with Wiiload and the Homebrew Channel, PS3Load allows you to run SELF programs over your wireless or wired network!

To use it, simply run Wiiload with a .self file, and point it to your PS3's IP address.

PS3Load is included in PSL1GHT's samples, but I've also attached a precompiled self for running directly from app_home (package coming...
