50°
337w ago - 360Sync.com is giving you the chance to quit your bellyaching about Achievements not being worth anything by giving you the opportunity to find some real ones in return for all manner of gaming goodness.

"Unlock the Achievement" will give gamers the chance to scour all their favorite websites for hidden Achievements which they can then use to enter the contest. Each affiliated website will house 5 Achievements, which range in difficulty from Paris Hilton Easy to Guitar Hero III on Expert Hard.

With over 40 different sites participating, you're going to have to do a lot of surfing and miss a lot of sleep if you're going to find them all.

Once the contest ends, the top 100 finishers will receive a prize package, with the grand prize winner taking home an Xbox 360 120GB HDD, Project Gotham Racing 4, Soldier Of Fortune: Payback, Devil May Cry 4, Call of Duty schwag, a Live is 5ive limited edition T Shirt, the complete Halo soundtrack, Uno, and 200 Microsoft Points.

Aside from this being a simple contest, it's also a charity event, as the same day the contest starts Unlock the Achievement will be delivering over 100 games to the kids of St. Jude's Research Hospital in Tennessee. You get cool prizes, some brave kids get great games, everybody wins.

Sony lacks manufacturing capacity to meet Blu-ray demand?

50°
338w ago - Despite Blu-ray's utterly devastating victory earlier this year, Sony may be in a spot of trouble. Seems the company has a bit of a problem manufacturing the discs (I swear I've heard that before), and since it's the the biggest producer of The Blu (that's how cool kids say Blu-ray), it could be the biggest obstacle to the format's success.

Not that that really matters, since in five years we'll have a new format. Demand for The Blu is expected to JUMP this year to 48 million units; Sony only has the capacity to manufacture 38 million, and that's after an upgrade to its facilities.

And while I'm thoroughly post-disc (technically), I did have my eye on the PS3, more or less because I could use it as a Blu-ray player.

But then I heard the system doesn't output DTS-HD, so what's the point? :P

50°
338w ago - Update: CJPC has now publically posted the FULL PS3 Home Links for those who wish to further experiment.

Shortly following the earlier Site News from xtianoPL detailing PlayStation@Home working, but you can't play! we have a follow-up courtesy of rda990... According to THIS post (and also the pics/video below) he can play in PS3 Home now without being invited into the BETA program, however, there are no other users active he states as follows: I am the only one there. I can't see anyone there, it's like me being the last man on earth. I haven't seen anyone yet, so far I have been in the (I think its) something Squar- the theather, and right now I'm in the bowling alley.

More to come, check out the pics/video above and post all feedback HERE!

PlayStation@Home working, but you can't play!

338w ago - Update: beefmanbeefer has confirmed it to be working with PS3 Firmware 2.20, however, based on reports it appears it doesn't work with lower Firmware versions.

He also shared a video (below) and states: Here is PS3 Home BETA crashing, what I do in the video is this: First I try to connect to the servers and it fails. Then I press X to try to connect again, and almost simultaneously I press the PS button and go to quit. It then says please wait and then the ps3 finally crashes when you hear the 2 beeps.

Hi, My name is Krystian and my english is bad, that's all about me

I found some interesting thing when I was 'playing' with PS3.ProxyServer. I replaced some XML files, and now I can install PlayStation@Home public BETA Trial from PLAYSTATION@Network servers in XMB.

I think it's to prepare for real open BETA, and that will be unlocked very soon by Sony.

Full details, download links, and screens HERE!

PS3 1080i Support working in Burnout Paradise

50°
339w ago - Criterion has revealed that they've found a way to support 1080i in Burnout Paradise. This will enable any gamers who own a 1080i TV that doesn't support 720p to run the game in HD instead of SD.

They recommend that if you have the option to run 720p, run the game in this mode, because the 1080i image is effectively scaled from 720p. This feature will appear in the "Cagney" update version 1.3.

To quote: To trigger this feature, all you'll need to do is make sure you have 1080i ticked and 720p unticked in the XMB display options, once you've installed the Cagney download.

More Cagney features to follow this week...
