147w ago - Korean company LG wants Sony's PlayStation 3 and Bravia televisions banned in the US for what it claims are patent infringements relating to Blu-ray playback.
To quote from EuroGamer: "The Foss Patents blog contacted Eurogamer to reveal documents filed with the US International Trade Commission in Washington relating to the complaint. mThe ITC has the power to block imports of products that violate US patents.
LG claims Sony is infringing four of its patents in a complaint that broadly relates to "certain electronic devices having a Blu-Ray Disc player and components thereof", but the PlayStation 3 (Model No. CECH-2501A) is the only Sony product to be specifically named in the main document of the complaint.
A Bloomberg reports suggests LG's claims are revenge for cases brought against it by Sony in December. Sony claims the Seoul-based company is infringing seven of its patents relating to LG phones. Sony has also filed a civil lawsuit against LG Blu-ray players.
147w ago - PlayStation Network Director of Marketing Brandon Stander has announced today that Sony's Filmy application for high-definition videos is hitting PSN.
To quote: PlayStation Network users will be excited to hear that we have just introduced a new movie viewing application from Sony Corporation exclusively on PSN.
The new application, called Filmy, allows easy organization and viewing of AVCHD video recorded with Sony cameras on PlayStation 3.
With Filmy, you can enjoy smooth operability and easy video playback of your AVCHD videos. Simply connect an AVCHD-recordable camera to your PS3 with the USB cable, and you can view those high-definition AVCHD videos right on your TV.
The Filmy application is available in the media category within the PlayStation Store as a free trial version that allows you to operate full features for 15 minutes and also as a paid version that unlocks all content functionality for $5 USD. Once downloaded, Filmy will install under the Video icon of your XMB.
The Filmy application is yet another innovative offering on PSN as we continue to expand your entertainment options, including games, movies, TV shows, sports and content that just can't be found anywhere else.
Check out the free trial, and you'll see for yourself...
147w ago - Right now we have so many PS3 Backup Managers out there for the PlayStation 3 console, and most of them are skinable.
In addition to the great PS3 OBM Themes here on PS3 News, I would like to share one of the greatest Theme sites out there.
I am talking about PS3.Spiffy360.com which may some of you know cause of the Wii and XBox 360 Theme sites.
So we have 3 Theme repositories there which are updated nearly every day. Right now the focus is on the PS3 site for sure, and we looking for some more talented skinners out there taking part in our great Theme site.
And to complete this, here are the last winners of our internal Theme Competition (Jsjar, Opium2K, condorstike- already here).
To quote: Hello everyone, i created this little app it took me about 15 minutes.
This app can unlock another persons save by opening your param.sfo from your save and then opening their param.sfo from their save, it will then create a new param.sfo that you can use to overwrite the other param.sfo in the other users save that you'd like to use.
this app may not work for some or most games, but i know it works on raging blast 2 =D
p.s. i used satanicat's save guide as a basis for creating the app
UPDATE: i've added a few error checks to the app
UPDATE 2/8/11: i've added a few tweaks to the UI, also i've made the app copy your gameID from yourSFO to the otherSFO if the id in otherSFO is not the same, hopefully this might help games from other regions work.
