Team Ninja on Ninja Gaiden 3 PS3 Multiplayer and Sigma+ PS Vita

250°
137w ago - Today Team Ninja have shared multiplayer details on the upcoming Ninja Gaiden 3 title for PS3 and also Ninja Gaiden Sigma+ for the PlayStation Vita handheld.

To quote from Sony Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein: Earlier this week, Team Ninja set up a temporary dojo in San Francisco to share news and game time with [Register or Login to view links] and [Register or Login to view links] on the PlayStation 3.

Of particular note was the first hands-on demo of Ninja Gaiden 3's multiplayer offering in the form of 4v4 Team Deathmatch and Battle Royale modes.

It's a bold move to add a competitive multiplayer mode to a melee-based action game, and I struggled to think of a comparable product out there; it definitely stands on its own in the action genre. My favorite touch: when struck by a deathblow, you can fight off your attacker by mashing the buttons, and then choose to "die with honor" via [Register or Login to view links].

After a lengthy playtest, we were granted some face-to-face time with the team's Head Ninja, Yosuke Hayashi. Here we chat PlayStation Move support in NG3, working on the Vita, and how many actual ninja are on Team Ninja:

Video: Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock Coming to PS3 and PS Vita

300°
137w ago - BBC Worldwide Executive Producer Simon Harris has announced today that Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock is coming to PS3 and PS Vita with a video trailer available below.

To quote: Developing anything for Doctor Who has to be done right. The show has such a following that we need to be certain that everything the game does fits with the expectations of the fans.

So far, we've said very, very little about the game. This trailer just has the barest hints about the core of this story. What is The Eternity Clock? How is it related to the Doctor? How is River involved in this?

I'm afraid this post isn't going to answer any of these questions; we'll leave that to future posts and the game itself.

We're very excited to be working with Supermassive Games as they've already delivered some great titles for PlayStation, such as Tumble, Start The Party and Start The Party: Save the World. The team are huge fans of the show and they've been great at bringing the key essence of Doctor Who into the game.

Working on PlayStation Vita, as well as PS3, is a real privilege and its unique set of features has allowed our designers to cut loose and we'll tell you a lot more detail about how we're...

Sony Details MLB 12 The Show for PS3 and PS Vita Consoles

300°
137w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has shared details today as part of an interview on MLB 12 The Show for PS3 and PS Vita consoles.

To quote: At a holiday showcase event in New York City last night, I took a few swings with an early build of MLB 12 The Show, including the PlayStation Move-enhanced PS3 edition and the all-new PS Vita iteration.

The game's community manager, Ramone Russell, described how the San Diego team began development with a gruelingly in-depth focus test. The goal: to suss out what core players didn't like about last year's edition.

"The key feedback we heard involved our presentation and commentary, so that's our number one focus this year." Russell described a new feature called True Broadcast Presentation, which accurately recreates broadcast camera cuts and other presentation signatures you'd see in a televised MLB broadcast.

"We're trying to blur the lines between baseball simulation on your PS3 and what you'd see on MLB.TV sitting on your couch," Russell explained. "When a batter strikes out, the camera will cut and you will see his face, his anger."

Commentary, which Russell specifically described as the "number one complaint" from last year's game, is seeing a similarly massive overhaul. "You'll hear more season-specific...

Sony Denies Reports of PS3 Remote Play Compatibility for PS Vita

850°
138w ago - Following up on the previous report by Eurogamer, today Sony Computer Entertainment Senior VP Yoshio Matsumoto and Division 2 Software Development Head Muneki Shimada denied the report meaning there isn't a universal solution planned for making all PS3 games playable remotely on PS Vita.

To quote via Andriasang.com (linked above): "Freelance journalist Munechika Nishida conducted an interview with Sony's PlayStation Vita development staff for the latest installment of his "Random Tracking" series at Impress Watch.

He asked Sony Computer Entertainment Senior VP Yoshio Matsumoto and Division 2 Software Development Head Muneki Shimada about the reports.

"That information is mistaken," said Matsumoto. "The compatibility is achieved on the side of the PS3 game, just like normal."

Shimada agreed, saying that as with previous implementations of Remote Play, games will need API support."

PS3 Firmware Update to Enable PS Vita Remote Play on All Games

850°
139w ago - Previously we reported on a leaked document revealing PS3-Vita connectivity followed by some PS Vita PS3 Remote Play demo videos from TGS 2011, and today Eurogamer (linked above) reports that a PS3 Firmware update will enable PlayStation Vita Remote Play on all games.

To quote: "A future PlayStation 3 Firmware update will enable Vita Remote Play on all games, Eurogamer has learnt. However, this will be only at the PlayStation Portable 480x272 resolution, which will be upscaled to fill the screen.

For future games, developers will be able to include Vita specific 480p modes, Eurogamer understands. Vita's OLED display is actually capable of displaying games at 960x544 pixel resolution.

Vita Remote Play is how Sony's new handheld interacts with the PS3.

In a Tokyo Game Show demonstration Sony's Shuhei Yoshida played a brief section of Killzone 3 streamed into the device from a PlayStation 3 unit, noting how a few of the Dual Shock buttons missing on the Vita are mapped to the touchscreen.

Vita can also be used in co-operative play...
