PlayStation at the MLB All-Star Game Details Are Available

50°
285w ago - Sony's Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has shared details today of PlayStation at the MLB All-Star Game.

To quote: Here's the cool part of making the best baseball game out there: You're invited to the [Register or Login to view links], and all the related festivities.

Just in my day or so here in Missouri, it's very clear that St. Louis is a Baseball Town; everyone's decked out in [Register or Login to view links], and fans are flooding the All-Star events such as FanFest, where you can find PlayStation on full display.

We've got dozens of hi-def Bravia stations for players to go one-on-one with each other in MLB 09: The Show (oftentimes for prizes), but even better, we're putting this Baseball Town's extensive knowledge of the sport to good use.

Around the FanFest area at America's Center, you'll find kiosks set up with Buzz! Quiz TV (near the Chevy, Sharp, and Reebok "bases"). We've set up a special set of baseball quizzes, and the top scores are competing for a PS3 with a copy of MLB 09: The Show. If you're in the area (through Tuesday), I highly recommend that you drop by and take a crack at it (after studying your baseball trivia first, natch).

Socom Confrontation 1.50 Update Details, 1.60 Plans Revealed

200°
287w ago - The Socom Confrontation Online Team has announced the following news, on both the 1.50 and 1.60 patch updates respectively:

The 1.50 Update for SOCOM: Confrontation is feature complete and currently in test. Due to the number and scope of the feature set of 1.50 the testing cycle has taken longer than anticipated.

We remain committed to releasing this patch as soon as the remaining open issues are resolved. It is extremely important to us to make sure the 1.50 update is as problem free as possible when it is released and we are working towards that goal rather than pushing it out as is on a specific date.

A number of features in 1.50 are of such a scale that it will not be possible for us to fully predict how they will behave before public deployment. An example of this is the tournaments, each of which can accommodate 1000s of players.

To account for this, we will ramp the size and number of tournaments during the first weeks after release to monitor and address any issues which may arise. We have also been working on a 1.60 Update which will incorporate any fixes that are required as Tournaments and Clan Ladders become fully populated.

FREE Downloadable Content:

We are happy to announce that the 1.60 Update will also contain additional features...

PSW Magazine July '09 Issue Reveals Legitimate PS Cloud Details

50°
287w ago - Despite Sony stating that the recent PS Cloud rumor was pure conjecture, today Glyn_Dwr has shared a little substantial evidence that PS Cloud does exist.

Below is a scan from PSW Magazine's July '09 issue, to quote:

A small paragraph of information on PS 'Cloud' in July 09 issue of PSW page 73! Sorry about the lousy quality, the article reads:

You've always been able to create and share levels in PSN puzzler Echochrome, but an update will let you do this via 'Cloud'.

This system removes the need for Sony to check levels before being uploaded - an early problem for LittleBigPlanet. The new update will also allow for Playstation Eye support.

You will be able to film yourself solving the game's complex puzzles and then upload your performance to YouTube. Trash Panic also enables you to upload footage.

Does this mean we can expect to see user-created content via Playstation Cloud in future games?

Alleged PS3 Slim Details Leaked, Forecasted to Arrive This Fall

650°
287w ago - It is real. As previously reported, according to Super_Secret the 'PS3 Slim' is a PS3 that's been cut down as much as physically possible without preventing the loss of playback of any existing PS3 title out there.

It still has Blu-ray, it still has wireless, it still has bluetooth and it still has gigabit ethernet. "OtherOS" support has been removed.
You still get 2 USB ports.

Hard drive sizes will be bigger, it will come in 120Gb and 250Gb flavors. It's still replaceable and will actually be slightly easier as it has been relocated to the front of the console.

It will NOT have any "new" features, such as backwards compatibility or enhanced peripheral support. It's just a PS3, but slightly smaller and cheaper. The power supply is still internal, but a different power cable will be used.

Rear ports are still the same: 1x HDMI, 1x Sony AV port, 1x Optical, 1x Ethernet. And of course a power port. Release date and official announcement are not final.

Price is undetermined, but make no mistake, this is a "slimmed" PS3 in every sense of the word. It's as cheap as can possibly be, so expect it to launch with a smaller price tag than what you're paying...

Details on Microsoft's Project Natal and XBox 360 Relaunch

50°
287w ago - Microsoft is bringing more to the Xbox 360 than simply a new way to play games; you might be seeing a significant upgrade to the console's graphics thanks to a couple of new initiatives.

Project Natal, which will launch at some point next year, is set to bring a new way to play video games.

Microsoft's Shane Kim has already stated that the controller-less peripheral will receive a launch as big as the Xbox 360, but apparently the company will be providing even more momentum.

To quote: You may not know it, but Microsoft shipped a new Xbox 360 development kit to studios earlier in the year. One striking difference was the inclusion of one-gigabytes of RAM.

Like the PlayStation 3 1GB development kits, the extra memory can be used to properly test your game. This was a problem for Xbox 360 developers before now, since extra memory from the 512MB pool would have to be put aside to test their game engine.

No, this does not mean that Microsoft will be releasing a new Xbox 360...
