UKIE Welcomes Sony's Action Against PS3 JailBreak ModChips

700°
226w ago - Over the weekend more legal documents surfaced as part of an ongoing effort to extinguish the PS3 JailBreak, and today Examiner.com (linked above) reports that video games and interactive entertainment trade body UKIE welcomes Sony's swift action against PS3 JailBreak modchips.

To quote: SCEE reacted quickly to its becoming available, writing to the companies that advertised and stocked the Break device and advising them to desist in selling the illegal product.

Most companies that were contacted complied immediately and ceased to stock and to sell the product. Court orders were swiftly obtained against those companies that continued to sell the product and they have now also stopped selling the PS3 Break modchips.

UKIE's Director General, Michael Rawlinson, said, "Having our member, SCEE, respond so quickly to prevent the sale of illegal PS3 modification chips shows the commitment that the video games and interactive entertainment industry has to stamping out intellectual property theft.

Patapon 3 PSP Q&A with Hiroyuki Kotani: More Epic, Multiplayer

50°
227w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has shared a Patapon 3 PSP Q&A with Hiroyuki Kotani today, revealing that the PSN title will be more epic with multiplayer support.

To quote: In addition to Patapon 3's better-known enhancements – the tough-as-nails Super Hero Patapons, approximately 80 levels, the Pata-text chat system – the topic of multiplayer gameplay remains something of a mystery.

So while at the Tokyo Game Show, I jumped at the chance to speak with Hiroyuki Kotani, better known as the director of the Patapon series, to touch upon more details for his upcoming PSP rhythm-action game.

I was particularly interested in how the new online multiplayer-centric gameplay would impact the game, as well as what new challenges the Patapons will face in their strange new surroundings.

Sid Shuman: Patapon 3's visual style looks more sophisticated, how have you evolved the art style?

Hiroyuki Kotani, Director, Patapon 3: Along with the more epic theme, we changed the graphical style not only for the Superhero Patapon, but also for the backgrounds. The backgrounds in the previous games looked more flat and two-dimensional. But now in Patapon 3 you can feel much more atmosphere – it's both more fantastic and more realistic.

The rest of the world will get its chance in 2011 - on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

To quote: "Gearbox has enabled die-hard key Duke Nukem franchise builders and skilled veteran game makers to stand together and deliver, said Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software.

All gamers deserve a happy ending and after all of us gamers feeling the full range of emotions about Duke Nukem Forever, I am thrilled to be in a position with the trust, power and means to make it happen."
