EA and Sony Deny PS3 Cross-Game Voice Chat Rumors

300°
273w ago - Today Kotaku (linked above) followed up on yesterday's rumor from N4G insider Super_Secret on why Cross-Game Chat is currently missing in action on the PlayStation 3 console.

To quote: Rather than jump to conclusions, we decided to contact the two parties involved for comment on the situation.

First to respond was Jeff Brown, EA's vice president of corporate communication.

"Not no-how, not no-way did that ever happen. This is a total fabrication - total nonsense. We think voice chat is an extremely cool feature and added it to Madden/ PS3."

Brown then added, "We support cross-game voice on other systems and would be happy to do that on any console."

Soon after Brown responded to our inquiry, Sony's senior director of corporate communications Patrick Seybold also responded, keeping things short and sweet. "This is rumor and frankly not true."

Another corporate cover-up like the PS3 Slim's existance, or is the rumor officially debunked now? Feel free to comment below!

Sony CEO Howard Stringer Scoffs at PS3 Price Cut Rumors

250°
280w ago - Despite top industry sources reporting that a PS3 price drop is coming, Sony's CEO Howard Stringer continues to brush brushed off concerns that the PlayStation 3 video game console is too expensive.

To quote: Stringer described recent comments about PlayStation's price by Robert Kotick, the CEO of video game publisher Activision Blizzard Inc, as standard business tactics.

"He likes to make a lot of noise," Stringer said, when asked about the comments. "He's putting pressure on me and I'm putting pressure on him. That's the nature of business."

Last month, Kotick told the Times of London that Activision might cease developing games for the PlayStation if Sony did not cut the price of the console, which competes with Microsoft Corp's Xbox and Nintendo Co Ltd's Wii.

"When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might want to consider if we support the console," Kotick had said.

Asked about the logic of not cutting prices, Stringer said, "I (would) lose money on every PlayStation I make - how's that for logic."

PSM3 Magazine Gives Another Confirmation to PS3 Slim Rumors

250°
281w ago - Although it probably isn't necessary, adding to Ars Technica's recent PS3 Slim confirmation comes yet another... this time from PSM3 Magazine.

TechRadar recently asked a number of PlayStation magazine editors and games industry analysts for their own views on the matter, to quote:

"The PS3 Slim is a certainty," said PSM3 magazine editor, Dan Dawkins, in no uncertain terms.

Following the PS3 Slim rumors reaching fever pitch earlier this month, TechRadar cannot help but wonder if the PlayStation mag editor perhaps knows something that we don't?

"Given the similarity of the leaked packaging to the official PSP Go box, the PS2 Slim's historical precedent, plus the latest round of manufacturer gossip - but the July release date sounds dubious," Dawkins adds.

PSW Magazine Rumors: PS3 Price Cut & PS3 Slim at TGS 2009

400°
283w ago - It appears the latest issue of PlayStation World Magazine reveals that both a PS3 price cut and the rumored PS3 Slim will both be announced at this year's Tokyo Game Show.

To quote: Expect the long-awaited price chop to be announced at the Tokyo Games Show.

This year the Tokyo Games Show will be held from September 24 to September 27 in the Makuhari Messe, in Chiba, Japan.

Sony could make this announcement a lot sooner now that Activision CEO, Bobby Kotick has threatened to stop supporting the PS3 if a price cut is not announced soon.

The PS3 Slim packaging looks almost identical to the confirmed PSP Go, so it isn't a fake. Expect the smaller, lighter PS3 to be announced at the Tokyo Games Show in September, just in time for Xmas.

PSP Go Box Design Lends More Credibility to Slim PS3 Rumors

200°
285w ago - Ever since shots of Sony's new PSP Go have surfaced, some similarities between it and the rumored PS3 Slim box have been the subject of debate.

Both boxes share similar font, a horizontal band and similar placement of device specifications such as the memory capacity.

To quote: Remember when those slim PS3 shots came out and skeptics bemoaned the missing "spiderman font" as proof of mischief?

Well, if you believe that the PSP Go is a lock, and really, at this point there's no reason to doubt it, then a side-by-side shot of the PSP Go and slim PS3 box art should be quite revealing... and it is.

Note the similar font, horizontal band, and general placement of device specs like memory capacity. Pretty similar, thus giving the slim PS3 rumor that much more weight.

If this is the new slim PS3 then the only question now is whether it'll be unveiled at E3 next week or not.
