205w ago - United Front Games Designer Mat Thomas has shared a ModNation Racers PS3 racing video walkthrough today on the PlayStation Blog.
To quote: Today I want to talk about our approach to the racing and give you an insight into the philosophy around developing the handling, weapons and AI.
When we started working on ModNation Racers we knew we couldn't simply create a basic physics system to deliver our core race experience. We were also weary of the fact that unlike many racers, the player in ModNation Racers will also be focused on weapon play.
Very early on in development we experimented with extremely tight handling (akin to driving on rails) and a much more physical race experience. What we soon realized is that when the handling model is tight, there is not much fun in the race experience, it was essentially too easy and likewise when the user is spending a lot of time concentrating on just keeping the vehicle on the track with a more complex handling model then this doesn't leave any mental power to experiment and use weapons.
So as you may expect we ended up with something in the middle which offered us the physicality and emergent feel that for us makes this feel like a true next generation karting title. What we found is that this made the handling very much pick...

230w ago - Forza 3 might not include features from the title above, but it will include a heck of a lot more.
It's the first in the series to feature a cockpit view, and will include over 400 cars, many of which have yet to be announced.
There's been a few rumors that the game will also introduce a weather system, night racing and even off-road rally racing like Gran Turismo 5's inclusion of World Rally Championship.
However, Turn 10 community manager Che Chou has come out to refute those claims (at least for now) on the official Forza MotorSport 3 forums, to quote: "No weather, night racing, or rally in the game."
That said, the game will likely include most of your favorite cars, with Chou adding:
"Any car is up for grabs. Just because we haven't announced/shown it doesn't mean it won't make it into the game. We're just trickling out info."
The amount of effort put into all aspects of the game, from physics to graphics, can be seen in the following developer diary when Turn 10 went to visit the Le Mans race track in France.

238w ago - Audi is obviously looking forward to being in the coming Gran Turismo 5.
After all, the Quattro company has created a Web site to promote its car on the Nürburgring in real life and in the game, and it interviewed GT5 mastermind Kazunori Yamauchi about what fans can expect.
To quote: Yamauchi-san revealed that the game is going to offer not only more vehicles, more online features, and increased detail, but it will also include night racing, damage rendering (previously confirmed), and weather changes.
If you watch the Audi R8 Meets Gran Turismo 5 video, one of the game developers even talks of one day providing weather reports for an entire 24-hour race, and you can read the interview with Yamauchi-san by clicking on a PDF link here. The graphical and gameplay additions are surely welcome and long overdue, and could return GT5 to the head of the racing sim pack - whenever it finally gets here...
