182w ago - Following up on the previous article, today the full PS3 QA Flagging Method has been revealed including the button combo and token alongisde a PS3 QA Tutorial from Slynk.

To quote: A few weeks ago, several steps were revealed in the process of unlocking a special Quality Assurance (QA) mode on your PS3 console. The mode unlocks a special mode, which is typically only meant for official Sony testers.

Unfortunately, the steps revealed were only part of the process. Developers were scrambling to figure out the button combo that unlocked the special QA mode. In addition, developers still needed to figure out what to change in the QA dummy token. These two mysteries prevented developers from unlocking the mode.

Today however, the Quality Assurance mystery comes to an end. An anonymous and reputable source exclusively revealed to us the two remaining steps. The secret button combination that unlocks the hidden QA mode was revealed to us as being L1+L2+L3+R1+R2+dpad down. Furthermore, the anonymous source told us that users need to change byte...

Video: PS3 QA Flag Demo, Enables Hidden Firmware Options

1300°
188w ago - Today Sony PlayStation 3 hacker Mathieulh has posted a video demo showcasing the PS3 QA flag, which is the internal console flag used by Sony to enable hidden Firmware options and removes restrictions on Retail and Debug consoles.

This is done on official PS3 Retail/Debug firmware without any modification as the console itself is QA flagged (QA token is set through spu_token_processor), meaning the method will not work on unflagged consoles and using the advanced QA flag also enables PS3 Firmware downgrading.

From the video's caption: I just QA flagged my Metal Gear Solid 4 Limited Edition console and I thought I'd show you the hidden options for the sake of it (and because I was bored).

I am sorry for the unstable camera, I only have two hands and the options are hidden and require (along with the actual flag) a crazy button combo to pop up. (I kid you not)

Sorry I am not telling you how to do this, please do not ask. Yes, this video is real.

QA flag is the internal console flag used by Sony, it enables hidden options and removes restrictions for both retail and debug consoles alike. It is used for QA centers and the R&D Department, there are 2 levels of QA flags, Minimum and Advanced, this console has been set to the Advanced one.

Sony Aids Indie PSP Devs with Faster QA and Lower Price Points

50°
283w ago - The price cut on the PSP devkit has already opened PSP development to more interested parties, but apparently that's not Sony's only approach to bringing in more devs to the handheld.

According to Develop (linked above), Sony is also cutting down on the time it takes for a game to pass the quality assurance process.

They're also abolishing concept approval and, perhaps best of all, they'll be instituting very low price points for new games.

As part of their bid to further propagate digital distribution especially for the PSP and the new PSP Go, Sony has already signed on over 50 developers working on new games and apps. More are also reportedly on the verge of joining.

One of the new devs working on content for the PSP platform is iPhone stalwart Subatomic Studios, who is currently preparing a PSP-exclusive version of its Fieldrunners tower defense game. India's Gameshastra and PlayStation Network vets Creat have also signed on.

To quote: "We're making games that are just 20MB each, that's less than a minute to download - instant gratification, snackable content," said Subatomic's Ash Monif. "This is an opportunity for the premier indie developers - and I hope we represent that group - to come in and offer content that will fit the PSP."

Street Fighter II HD (EU) Stuck in Sony QA Due to Problems

100°
307w ago - Although American players have been able to enjoy Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for quite some time now, European PS3 owners have been left in the dark. We've heard the cries before: "blame Sony," they'd say.

ThePSN.co.uk (linked above) had a chat with Capcom UK's Leo Tan to find out why SCEE is denying release of the game. To quote:

The nice Leo Tan at Capcom UK advised us that the release was currently dependant on "Sony QA", having been submitted twice before for release but winding up banjoed by SCEE due to "faults and other problems" that required the game to be "redone".

Capcom plan to submit a further version "hopefully within three weeks" that they expect to pass QA, but they "can't give any assurances as [we] thought the last one would pass".

Rumors still abound that the game was delayed due to arriving in Europe just after Sony's "no Trophies, no release" rule came into effect, so perhaps we'll get a definitive, Trophy-ready version by February.
