Sony Confirms Dead Nation PSN to Get Online Voice Chat Soon

100°
208w ago - Today Sony Producer Daimion Pinnock has confirmed that Dead Nation on PSN will be receiving online voice chat soon!

To quote: We know some Dead Nation online co-op players have requested voice chat functionality.

I'm here to tell you that we've listened to the fans and are taking steps to add voice chat for online co-op in the near future. To reiterate this point, here's a note from the team at [Register or Login to view links]:

We know some of you are frustrated by the lack of voice chat support in Dead Nation's online co-op mode. We realize many players have been very eager to join up and start taking care of the zombie nation and we greatly appreciate the continued support.

Therefore, the team is currently working on the addition of voice chat capability and hope to introduce it as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, we're keen to get as much feedback on the game as possible so we can further improve what we think is a great zombie game. We'll be sure to keep everyone posted via the PlayStation.Blog and our [Register or Login to view links] on when they can expect the voice chat update.

We at Housemarque put our hearts and souls into the development of our games with...

Video: Dead Nation PS3 Online Co-op via PSN Confirmed

50°
216w ago - Housemarque CEO and Co Founder Ilari Kuittinen has shared a fresh video trailer and confirmed Dead Nation PS3 online co-op via PSN today.

To quote: I would like to confirm that Dead Nation does have an online co-op mode!

You will be able to team up with your friends, either sharing the couch or via the [Register or Login to view links], and take on the undead invasion.

Originally, online co-op wasn't going to be included as a launch feature as the schedule and resources didn't allow it. However, after many late night testing sessions and long talks with Sony, we decided that this was a must-have feature and it would be unfair on you if we launched without it.

At this point our coders went from 12 hour working days to 16 hour days, as well as weekends. Fortunately, I think what we came up works really well.

Check out this new Know your Enemy trailer:

The online co-op fully matches the offline experience. Enjoy the no-compromise co-op experience with hundreds of on-screen zombies, huge explosions and bloody entrails scattered everywhere, if you're good enough!

In addition to the coders working non-stop, the designers and artists felt it was only fair...

Andrew House Reveals Sony Examines Online Pass for PS3 Titles

550°
222w ago - President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Andrew House has revealed to [Register or Login to view links] that Sony is currently examining the Online Pass model for first-party PS3, PSP and PSN titles.

Both EA and THQ already use an Online Pass system for their multiplayer titles, allowing publishers to reclaim some money from the used video game market as those buying second-hand will need to purchase an online pass for the multiplayer component of the game.

To quote: "Activision's Bobby Kotick had said his company would like to see a subscription based service, however House seemed to warn against this.

"In terms of just a charge for basic online play, that's something that we have to talk about a lot more and we struggle with a little bit because we feel very vindicated and base a lot of the success of PSN today - a 70 per cent connection rate across consoles - on the fact that we've removed that major initial barrier to entry," concluded House."

Finally, Sony has already implemented a similar pass system for PSP shooter SOCOM:...

Video: Landit Bandit for PS3 Arrives on PSN Tomorrow

100°
228w ago - Bearded Ladies CEO Haraldur Thormundsson has announced that Landit Bandit for PS3 arrives on PSN tomorrow, July 13, 2010 and shared a video trailer.

To quote: Let us introduce ourselves and our little project [Register or Login to view links] which will be "landing" on the PlayStation Store on July 13th for $9.99.

We are five gamers, commonly known as "The Bearded Ladies," that have been lucky enough (or mad enough!) to live our dream of making a game for the PS3. We never gave the low odds of success a second thought – and that's just as good as we (two programmers from the auto industry, a janitor, a liquor store salesman, an expedition leader from Nepal) would never have made a PS3 game. We've included a picture so you know what you are dealing with here.

The game, Landit Bandit, is a wacky 3D helicopter adventure that pays homage to several old classics such as Ugh! and Crazy Taxi. The controls are intuitive and resemble Moonlander in 3D, but are deep enough to have you playing for hours to master them.

The game is aimed at anyone that enjoys flight games or physics-based games in general, or anyone that wants to play something different...'cause we are confident...

Capcom: No Online Play for Bionic Commando: Rearmed on PSN

100°
304w ago - Capcom producer Ben Judd shared his opinion on Bionic Commando: Rearmed with Gamasutra recently, stating that excluding online play from Rearmed was "the right choice."

To quote: "After seeing the large amount of headaches, additional production time and cost that comes with adding online, I'm glad we made the choice not to include it."

He noted that many digitally distributed games are plagued with online problems and that "additional sales would not have been equivalent to the additional pains" needed to add online play to the game.

While we certainly have to agree that digitally distributed games have their share of online problems - something any XBLA user can tell you - we can't help but imagine the glories online play could have brought to Bionic Commando: Rearmed.
