182w ago - Today UffSite.net (linked above) has posted a picture of the Final Fantasy 13 box that has leaked, which reveals that no mandatory PS3 HDD Installation is required to confirm previous reports.
Additionally, although the game naturally runs in 720P it includes 1080P full HD for CGI sequences and has no lossless audio for the PlayStation 3 version.
To quote: "Specifically, the back of the box states that the game has No Optional or Mandatory install, only using up 500kb of hard drive space for a save game. This is great news for PS3 owners, and indicates that the game will run as smoothly as the demo did.
The image also confirms that the PS3 version will have super high quality LPCM 5.1 audio and the CGI sequences will be in full 1080p HD rather than the 720p that was feared.
While the game itself does run in 720p, this means the FMVs on PS3 will be of the highest possible quality. This may be the advantage PS3 will have over Xbox 360, as fitting lossless audio and large FMVs on a DVD will prove difficult."
185w ago - Today GamesOnSmash.com (linked above) managed to get their hands on Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for Sony's PlayStation 3 console and have confirmed that the title does not require any PS3 HDD installation.
However, they do report that upon receiving the game users will be prompted to download a 15MB update for it.
To quote: "Well today I got an early copy of Call Of Duty MW2. I put the disc in, and well the bad news is it requires a 15MB update but does no require any install whatsoever. So gamers can pretty much jump in and play on the PS3 version of the game.
Hmm.. makes me wonder if other developers can follow suit and at least make it optional."
186w ago - Assassin's Creed II is set to be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America on November 17, 2009 and in PAL regions on November 20, 2009.
The Windows version of the game was originally scheduled to be released at the same time, however Ubisoft later announced that it would be delayed until the first quarter of 2010.
BrutalGamer.com (linked above) reports today that the game will require 2GB of data to be installed on the PlayStation 3's hard drive, meaning the PS3 HDD installation time will total approximately five to six minutes.
To quote: "In our upcoming hands-on feature with Assassin's Creed 2, courtesy of Ezio's best mate Keats, it is revealed that the final version of of the game for the PS3 will have around a 2 GB install.
Speaking with the Ubisoft PR rep at the Eurogamer Expo 2009 he confirmed it would take roughly 5 or 6 minutes to install."
187w ago - Although not quite as nice as the optional Tekken 6 PS3 HDD install, today it was confirmed that Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time for PS3 will have a mandatory (but small) 500MB installation.
To quote: "Much like Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, the latest Ratchet & Clank title also features a mandatory installation. Requiring 500MBs of space, A Crack in Time will only take up a small fraction of your HDD space.
Instead of watching a boring loading screen, though, the game will have Captain Qwark recap the events of Tools of Destruction in an interview.
If you haven't played Tools of Destruction for a while, or somehow missed out on the awesome experience, you'll know the basics as to why Clank is missing and who the Zoni are through this interesting and comical interview."
