25w ago - Red Hare Studios Producer Wee Lit Koh has invited fans to flex their Lexicon in Page Chronica, which is out Tuesday on PSN with a video trailer below.
To quote: During the making of our game Page Chronica, a common question has been "Is this an edutainment game?" Whenever we hear that word, our bodies cringe and we adamantly deny the claim.
In the gaming industry, the term conjures memories of boring school educational games that would alienate the majority of our console gamers. So for a long period of time, we would refuse to admit that our game is such a thing.
However, we eventually lightened up to the notion. That is not to say that we have fully accepted the classification, but it is more of a matter of tweaking our perspectives. So to all the edutainment-haters out there, we're here to convince you to withhold judgment and give Page Chronica a try.
Page Chronica is not your average side-scrolling action-platformer. It is an action-oriented word-puzzle game that combines elements of action-platformers with the forming of words. Capture letters and form words of various lengths and complexity to gain the power to unleash a variety of Spells and Attacks. The stronger the words formed, the more powerful you will be.
26w ago - Bolser Digital Director Richard Carter has shared a video announcing that the PS Vita application T@G launches today on PSN.
To quote: Good news everyone - our free PS Vita app t@g will finally be available to download later today.
T@g is an augmented reality social graffiti application. You can create your very own t@gs using different fonts, fills and effects and go out and place them in the real world using the camera and GPS on the PSVita. You can also overt@g other players, advance through the ranks opening up new fonts and fills, and earn respect and kudos by following other t@ggers.
It's been a while since we started developing t@g - well before the PS Vita was really publicly known. So much so that our initial devices didn't even resemble the final product - no touch screens, battery, 3G or GPS. As you can imagine for such an application that is so dependent on all these features it did cause us a few difficulties on the way!
One of the most memorable moments was field testing on the local cricket pitch with two 100 meter extension cables leading back to the office. The developer was stood in the middle of the field with a Vita in one hand and a laptop perched on his knee testing...
28w ago - XDev Associate Producer Neil McPhillips is here with ten tips to conquer your foes on PSN in When Vikings Attack today!
To quote: Hey folks, I'm very pleased to announce that When Vikings Attack! is finally out on PSN today!
It's been a long road for the team getting their first game out on both PS3 and PS Vita at the same time but they've done it without a hitch!
We'd like to take the opportunity now to thank everyone who's taken the time to support us during development, played the game at local events and tweeted nice things about us. We hope you all love the finished product and continue to feed back to us any comments you might have.
Now that it's out, we expect to see many brave citizens battling online, so we've put together our top 10 tips for playing the game. Read them well - they may give you the edge online!
• X to dash and catch - Pressing the X button will make your team perform a speedy dash -- essential for avoiding incoming projectiles. If you're a bit more confident, you can dash into an incoming object and snatch it out of the air to quickly return it your opponent! This is a very useful move in heated battles.
• Dash and Bash - As well as being a defensive move, dash can also be used offensively. See an oncoming...
29w ago - Might and Delight Lead Programmer Kian Bashiri has announced that new Puzzler Pid is out today on PlayStation Network alongside a fresh video trailer below.
To quote: Hi everyone - Kian here from Might and Delight! I'm hugely proud to tell you that tomorrow we're releasing our first game, our darling Pid!
Pid is a platforming adventure with a strong retro flavor, a unique puzzle-oriented core mechanic, creatively challenging level design, a cast of charming characters, larger than life boss encounters and tons of secrets - all set in a peculiar alien world to a deliciously jazzy soundtrack.
Don't let the smooth graphics fool you! Having taken a lot of inspiration from classic platformers such as Mega Man, Donkey Kong and Metroid, we hope that your platforming fu is strong. This is a game that will challenge you and charm you at the same time.
How does all this mix together? Our release trailer will explain how:
Simultaneous with the PSN launch is the release of the game's soundtrack, created by Retro Family. Pid's soundtrack is a huge part of the game, so let me hand over to Walle Wahlgren, drummer in Retro Family, for the inspiration...
30w ago - FarSight Studios Lead Designer Bobby King is here with a new video featuring Elvira in The Pinball Arcade which hits PSN tomorrow.
To quote: Happy Halloween week guys and gals - we've got a special treat for you all! In our on-going quest to re-create as many of the best pinball tables of all time, we were able to get the licenses needed from Bally and the Mistress of the Dark herself, Elvira!
This means Elvira and the Party Monsters will be released in Table Pack 6 tomorrow, and Scared Stiff will be released before too long in Table Pack 7.
Elvira has been super cool to work with. She invited us to part of her Macabre Museum at Comikaze Expo last month.
We got to show off the Party Monsters table right along with a real machine. Some of the guys here on the pinball team got to meet her, and she even came over and played our game for a while. She's actually pretty good at pinball!
