Next Killzone 2 BETA to be Even More Open to the Public

100°
311w ago - Killzone 2, the highly anticipated new shooter from Guerilla Games, is currently in its second BETA phase. I contacted Yvonne Von Berg to talk about the possibility of acquiring a BETA key to write an impressions preview.

Her response wasn't what I hoped for, but I found out some important info regarding the third phase of the games BETA testing. Yvonne Says:

"Good Morning Paddy,

The current beta testing phase, is the second of three and is not open to the public; phase three will be a lot more open so please keep an eye on our forums and www.killzone.com for news,

Kind regards,

Yvonne Von Berg"

So keep active on Killzone.com and their forums to have a chance at getting into the third phase of the BETA, and hopefully an opportunity to destroy the Helghast menace before the games release in 2009.

More info soon on Killzone 2's trophys and gameplay features as it develops.

PlayStation 3 Home Open BETA Not Coming with Firmware 2.50

200°
311w ago - Home Community Manager "TedTheDog" has clarified statements he made last month on the US Home BETA forums. In regards to a specific bug, Ted said the bug will be fixed in Firmware update 2.5.

"2.5 is what we're waiting for and 'October' is what I've heard, later October is my guess." He goes on make a statement that would seem to indicate Home 1.0 will be arriving at the same time.

Not the case, Ted stated on the official European PlayStation Home Forum. "Open BETA will be later this year after 2.5 is released.

Sorry about that, I should know better than to say anything that could be misconstrued like that on such an important subject."

Sony Plans to Turn Closed LittleBigPlanet BETA into Open Demo

50°
311w ago - Everyone is going absolutely nuts over the LittleBigPlanet BETA, as multiple gaming sites all over the Internet are giving away thousands of access codes. But you may not have to get lucky if you wish to play the game before its October 21 release date...

According to reliable inside information delivered by a reader, it seems Sony plans to open up the BETA testing during the final week to give everyone a shot at it. Essentially, they produce the closed BETA to generate hype and interest, and then open it up to the public in the form of a playable demo a week before the game launches. The tipster in question posted the following in the Blu-Ray.com forums-

"If you don't get in, don't worry. They are supposed to be opening up the public BETA for the final week. Last I heard they were still planning on doing so, this closed BETA is just there to generate a bit (a lot) of hype for the game before it releases. Basically they are talking about turning the limited time closed beta into a demo for the week before launch. It is easier to do this than to release a demo."

This info evidently comes straight from SCEE, and if that's true, there's no denying its validity. The concept makes perfect sense to us, too, so we're going to say we're about 95% certain this rumor will be proven correct very soon....

Closed Home BETA applications open for Japan

300°
320w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment Japan announced today that they are now accepting applications from July 31, 2008 (Thursday) to August 11 (Monday).

Applications are made by downloading the PlayStation Home PS3 theme. The BETA will start in late August and is limited to 10,000 people.

In the case there are too many applicants, there will be a lottery to decide who is selected for the BETA. Images of the Japanese BETA show a Namco space that features the games Pac-Man, Moth-paid, DigDug and Elevator Action.

There is also an image of an Echochrome arcade machine inside Home.

PS3 Home 'Open Working BETA' Still On Track for 2008

300°
328w ago - Sony's long-promised PlayStation 3 virtual world Home is still on track for a 2008 release, although it'll likely stay in BETA.

While talking to senior director of PlayStation Network Susan Panico yesterday about Sony's new online PS3 magazine Qore, we got very briefly onto the subject of Home.

Saying that the software is still due for release at the end of the year, Panico noted that the "rollout will be similar to Gmail," describing what will launch this year as an "open, working BETA."

I certainly hope it's not that similar to Gmail, or it'll never get out of BETA. :P
