Codemasters on Taking the Race Online with GRID 2's Multiplayer

50°
75w ago - Codemasters Ben Walke shared details today on taking the race online with GRID 2's multiplayer.

To quote: We've talked previously about World Series Racing and the single player experience of GRID 2 - now it's time to talk multiplayer.

Multiplayer in GRID 2 is big. Bigger than anything we've done before. More depth, more choice, more progression... but before we get to the BIG details, we'll just chuck in a little reminder that you can play in two-player split-screen across our game modes. It's old school, and we love it.

GRID 2 utilizes a multiplayer system that is completely separate to the single player portion of the game. We want to bring the best of online gaming to the racing genre and a dedicated, distinct game is the only way we could achieve what we wanted.

As you progress you'll be able to earn XP and cash, which will allow you to purchase cars and upgrades, and you'll constantly have new challenges and rivals.

You'll also be able to showcase your individuality by customising and modifying your cars. With over six billion possible combinations to choose from, you'll certainly stand out on the grid.

The Clean vs. The Dirty

Naturally these two types of racers don't get on very well, it's the Cats vs. Dogs of the racing...

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World DLC: Online Multiplayer & Wallace Wells

50°
79w ago - Sony Producer Guillaume Gad shared a video today showcasing Scott Pilgrim vs. The World DLC including Online Multiplayer and Wallace Wells below.

To quote: When we created a game called Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, we meant it. "But," you might have asked, "what about playing against other Scott Pilgrim fans from around the world?"

Sure, our side-scrolling beat-em-up based on Bryan Lee O'Malley's award-winning graphic novels let's you play as everyone's favorite lovable loser: the titular Mr. Pilgrim.

And yes, you could team up with your pals for some couch co-op, playing as one of Scott's kooky cohorts in this charmingly 8-bit retro-gaming world (all while rocking to the chiptune sounds of [Register or Login to view links]). But what about online multiplayer?

With the latest downloadable content, your question has been answered. Out now tomorrow on PlayStation Network for $4.99, this new DLC not only adds Wallace Wells to the roster, but also brings online multiplayer to the game. No more crowding on the couch (unless, of course, you want to... but that's your business).

Instead, you can summon your pals from around the world to take on Ramona Flowers' evil exes - and...

PlayStation 4 / PS4 Rumored to Use Real Names for Online Gaming

550°
81w ago - Today Kotaku reports that Sony's PlayStation 4 / PS4 console is rumored to use real names for online gaming.

Below are the details, to quote: "Among the bits of information dropped during last week's PlayStation 4 announcement was this from PS4 lead architect Mark Cerny, as he discussed the system's enhanced social features:

"With the PlayStation 4 we are transitioning to a friends network based on real world friends. We'll keep around the alias and icon used in today's multiplayer matches. These are great to have when anonymity is important. But most of the new social dimension to PS4 will be interacting with friends using real names and profile pictures most likely seeded from your existing social network."

Some crucial-sounding words in there: "Alias." "Real names." "Profile pictures." "Anonymity." But what exactly does all that mean? Like so many other things introduced at the PS4 event, it's not entirely clear.

Since its inception, the PlayStation Network has for the most part been a gateway to buying content and a loose way to connect with your friends to play games. But Sony appears set to turn their service into much more of a "proper" social network. And parts of that social network are going to involve your real name.

Let's scrounge for crumbs of information...

DC Universe Online Home Turf PS3 DLC is Available Today

50°
85w ago - DC Universe Online Executive Producer Larry Liberty has announced that DC Universe Online Home Turf PS3 DLC is available today with details below, as follows:

Today our latest DLC pack - Home Turf - went live! Home Turf is our sixth DLC and brings with it the biggest addition to DC Universe Online since the launch of the game two years ago - Player Bases.

Bases are a player-created and controlled space that can be used as a venue of self-expression in addition to being a place for combat. Perhaps the most important part of your Base is the Mainframe. Through it, players can unlock several new abilities. In a lot of ways it's like having your very own Bat Computer.

The thing you're likely to notice when you first enter your Base is a terminal on the wall next to the front door. This is your Base's Control Panel, and by interacting with this you can relocate or rename your Base, or enter Decoration Mode.

Decoration Mode pops you into a first-person camera, allowing you to easily zoom around your Base, placing and moving items and amenities. The latter can include things like an R&D Station, Broker, Mailbox, or Bank. Basically, the things that you otherwise would need to visit a Safehouse or HQ to use - in the convenience of your own home.

When you...
