127w ago - Today Spanish site NicaGamerz.com (linked above) reports that the PS JailBreak PS3 ModChip is now legal in Spain, and that Sony must pay damages to the defendant.
The Barcelona court trial verdict apparently hinged on Sony's removal of OtherOS functionality.
To quote, roughly translated: "In Spain there was a precedent because any PSJailbreak product is legal for sales and advertising.
According to court No 8 Mercantil de Barcelona, on 07 December two thousand and ten, was officially PS legalization of Jailbreak in any store in Spain, too, that Sony will have to pay all the costs to the stores selling this product.
With the departure of PSJailbreak, Sony tried everything possible to prevent the sale in Spain of products that create the bootable Playstation 3 video games downloaded over the Internet or using backups for loading the games, following complaints produced by Sony, shops that were affected did not hesitate to attack Sony resorting to lawsuits.
As a conclusion all the devices that were previously illegal and can upload copies of video games has been legal in Spain.
127w ago - Update: PS3Break has also updated their hex codes to support PS3 Firmware 3.55 Spoofing.
To quote: It is the same as the 3.50 spoof payload, tricking your console into thinking its on the latest firmware. This does not allow you to go online, or play newer games. The purpose of the spoof is to prevent your console from telling you to update, that's all.
This update only stops you from updating to v3.55. Unfortunately PSN and v3.50 firmware based games are still unavailable.
Which means and I must stated in BOLD:
NO ONLINE PSN GAME PLAYING
NO GT5 (original or backup)
NO N4S:HP (same as above)
NO UNLOCKing YOUR PSN CONTENT
It appears the PS3Yes Team have worked out a way to properly spoof the PS3's 3.55 Firmware requirement and have released some hex codes for their PS JailBreak clone USB devices below.
128w ago - According to a recent SCEI patent, Sony plans to increase the PS3's power with an external processor.
To quote from PlayStationLifeStyle.net (linked above): "A Sony patent has hinted that they will release external processors to make the console even more powerful – without the need for a PS4.
The benefits of an upgrade to the PS3 are obvious – allowing for a more powerful machine, without having to pay so much for a new console. However, the “PS3 External Processor” has its drawbacks: it wouldn’t give consumers the same experience as a full new console, and would run the risk of both fragmenting and confusing the market.
The patent expressly states that several external processors may be used:
In accordance with an alternative embodiment, two processor elements may be cascaded by each employing its respective BIC in a coherent symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) interface (or BIF) configuration. The coherent SMP interface (BIF) of each processing element is coupled to one another to set up a coherent interface there between."
128w ago - Recently we reported on a 3.50 Firmware JailBroken PS3 x3Max video, and today PS3 developer xorloser has commented on the hack, as well as explaining why obtaining the hmac key for PlayStation 3 PUP files will not lead to PS3 Custom Firmware.
To quote from his blog, linked above:
"the hmac key for PUPs doesnt magically allow custom firmware. this is because all of the files that make up the PUP are signed anyway, so you cannot make custom versions of any of those files because you cannot sign them.
as for x3max supposedly working on v3.50, i call fake."
