Bungie accused of using Madeleine McCann case to promote Halo

50°
308w ago - In an unfortunate cross-cultural coincidence, Halo developer Bungie has inadvertently drawn parallels to an infamous child abduction case to promote its new Halo 3 expansion pack.

In a new teaser trailer, which depicts a war-torn city landscape, various messages flash up on the screen, including one that asks "Maddie, where are you?"

For many people, particularly living in Britain, this seemingly innocuous phrase will bring back memories of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, a three-year old British girl who was allegedly abducted from a Portuguese resort while on holiday with her parents.

At the time of the abduction, the slogan "Find Maddie" and "Where's Maddie?" featured prominently in British newspapers and international publicity campaigns around the world.

Bungie has denied any intent to create publicity by exploiting the McCann disappearance, with a representative claiming "This is both an unfortunate and unintended coincidence" on the official Halo forum.

The case is somewhat similar to an incident several years ago, in which the developers of the PC game Law and Order: Double or Nothing unwittingly included a CCTV still of the murdered British toddler James Bulger in their game.

Video: LittleBigPlanet Level - Halo 3 Finish the Fight

50°
308w ago - This is what happens when gamers fuse their favorite games together. While I can't particularly see Halo 3, and LittleBigPlanet fusing together well, one creator has gone through with it, and created his very own Halo 3: Finish the Fight level.

In the video below, Sackboy is wearing a green costume to imitate Master Chief, and as your playing the level, the Bungie song kicks giving it the extra effect.

The Warthog vehicles I have to admit are pretty nifty, and while you won't be necessarily kicking alien ass, this is definitely one of the better levels in the beta so far. Be sure to finish the fight if you have access to the beta, or watch the video.

Video can be viewed below courtesy of GameTrailers.. Enjoy!

TGR's Rumor Killers: Halo 4, Home, and GTA4 DLC

312w ago - Gearbox making Halo 4?

Gearbox Software is no stranger to high profile games, particularly those of the shooter variety. The company behind the Brothers in Arms series has been hinting for a while now that they're working on something big, something huge, something so mind-blowing if they dared speak its name we would all prostrate ourselves and weep uncontrollably for weeks. The only problem is that we had no idea what this project was, until now.

According to Joystiq, who is in turn relying on the spies at OXM, the new double-secret game coming from Gearbox is none other than Halo 4, the next true sequel in the franchise. Furthermore, this latest edition of Master Chief's saga would be a launch title for the next Xbox, meaning that if the game faces a normal development schedule then we should be expecting Microsoft's next console to drop sometime in 2012.

So how realistic is this one? Gearbox is one of the preeminent FPS developers in the industry, so the idea of them doing a Halo game is completely reasonable. Also, Randy Pitchford, the head of the studio, is directing this game personally, and he has gone on record saying that he "can't oversell this one." With all that in mind, this seems like a nearly done deal; we'll go ahead and wait for official confirmation, but in...

Rumor: Halo 4 - Beginning the Fight?

100°
327w ago - Ever since Bungie's split from Microsoft, details about the subsequent Halo games (in the main series) have been nonexistent. Well, according to an anonymous Internet blog called The Space Oddity, the rumors about Gearbox taking over the series in Bungie's absence are true.

The author, an employee of an unmentioned third-party game publisher, claims in his post that Microsoft will be announcing the game soon and that the fourth entry in the series will actually be a prequel.

Could Halo 4 be Microsoft's show stopping event at E3 '08? Only time will tell.
