New PS4 & PS3 Models CUH-1106A & CECH-4306CH Incoming, Details

50°
18w ago - Today some new PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 Models [Register or Login to view links] (PS4) and [Register or Login to view links] (PS3) respectively have been revealed by a Certification Request filed by Sony with details below.

To quote: "The PS4 has just been launched a few months ago, but Sony might already be planning to launch a new model of its new console. The manufacturer filed for the registration of two new "Computer Entertainment Systems" with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia.

The filing, listed on the [Register or Login to view links] of the Directorate of General Resources and Equipment of Post and Information Technology, bears the model number CUH-1106A. This seems to indicate an evolution of the console, but not a radical redesign like the passage from the PS3 slim to the super slim, for instance, which is normally indicated by an incremental change of the first number of the code (the slim was launched with the model number CECH-2001A, while the super slim started with CECH-4001A).

Currently the Asian version of the PS4 has the...

Sony Announces Transistor Out Tuesday, Recursion Mode Revealed

50°
19w ago - Supergiant Games Creative Director Greg Kasavin announced today via Sony's blog that Transistor for PS4 is out Tuesday alongside Recursion Mode details below.

To quote: Transistor is less than a week away! Things are eerily calm for us at [Register or Login to view links] as we await the moment when our new game becomes available worldwide, at which point we'll find out at long last what everybody really thinks!

It's been immensely gratifying to have worked on something that so many folks are excited about. Though, knowing full well just how little of the game we've shown, I'm eager to see the response to all the many aspects of the game we've purposely kept secret.

I'd like to talk about one of those aspects here, but first! Let me tell you why we've opted to keep so quiet through most of Transistor's development.

"The less you know about Transistor, the more likely it is to surprise you."

We could have shown more. Since you're reading this on PlayStation.Blog, I'd bet you're pretty up to date on what's happening in games in general. You know the typical PR cycle for a big game involves tons of trailers, previews, press releases, and so on, and maybe eventually a round or two of hands-on impressions before the game is finally released....

Hands-on the new with PS Vita

PS Vita's new design has tons of tweaks and adjustments, aside from the obvious thinner design and weight reduction. The Start, Select, Power, and PS buttons have been raised slightly, making them easier to press.

The grips on the back of the system have grown a bit, resulting in a more comfortable experience and less accidental taps on the rear touch pad. The edges of the system are more rounded, which just feels better. The display is now LCD based, but I didn't...

Sony on The Story Behind InFamous Second Son's Photo Mode

50°
21w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton is here with the story behind InFamous Second Son's photo mode today!

To quote: If you've been keeping even half an eye on gaming-related forums, blogs and social feeds over the last week or two you will surely have seen the stunning fruits of inFAMOUS Second Son's brilliant Photo Mode, which developer Sucker Punch added to the game via an update earlier this month.

It's fair to say the new feature has surpassed everyone's expectations and taken off in a big, big way - there are some absolutely incredible images out there, all created by you, the gamers.

So, to find out a little more about how it came to be and what the studio is making of its reception, we caught up with the man behind Photo Mode, Sucker Punch Senior Software Engineer Matt Durasoff.

How exactly did Photo Mode come to be? Was it something you planned early on, or was it more spur-of-the-moment?

Matt Durasoff: There's nothing novel about setting up shiny screen shots (say that ten times fast), but it was always something we did internally. For Second Son, the motivation for adding this feature came completely from the fans.

Right out of the gate, people were sharing awesome shots, without any special tools. Giving people a way to hide...
