221w ago - If you've followed the Live Blog of Hideo Kojima's GDC 2009 Keynote, you might be asking yourself, "What's the deal with the last startling images of the presentation?".

After a rousing speech taking audience members through the entire Metal Gear franchise the last image we were left with was a bold still which reads "Mission: The Next MGS". Furthermore, planted in the top right corner of the still is a clear impression of the cyber ninja Raiden (close-up after the cut):

Which leads us to Kojima's interview earlier this week with IGN, where he stated that work was currently underway on a new game and that "An official game announcement will be made at E3."

Could the images above be the smoking gun for the next Metal Gear Solid to be a Raiden-specific outing? Given that of course, there was no other mention of specifics or hints given throughout the keynote, for we'll have to wait and see not when, but what will be announced at this year's E3.

There's definite writing on the wall, but what's your theory on the official announcement at E3?

224w ago - The following are twenty mostly detailed points. Some are ideas Kojima Productions should do with the next Metal Gear; some are things Kojima Productions should not do. Some of these they would never even consider doing, but have been included just for completion's sake.

1. Cut down on the story. I've loved the story throughout the Metal Gear series. It's fairly clear, however, that we are all ready for it to be toned down again. It's telling that, when playing Metal Gear for the MSX, I enjoyed not being interrupted by cutscenes. Ever. But that's another extreme. Can we go back to the level of cutscene found in the first Metal Gear Solid, or even the PlayStation 2 titles? Please?

2. Remake a "previous story" from the Metal Gear series. It feels like this one is mentioned all the time, but how awesome would it be? An updated Metal Gear with some story? Why wouldn't you want to fight the Shotmaker or Dirty Duck again? They're fantastic! Zanzibarland would be great fully imaged in 3D. Imagine the chase scene through the jungle, hiding behind trees as you follow the beret. And then making it through the swamp before fighting Running Man. That would actually be really cool.

Sure, some elements would need to be re-jigged, but they're capable of that. And imagine the...

226w ago - Konami has announced today that it plans to release one of Sony's hit titles for its PlayStation 3 console - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, as a budget title this March. The budget title will be released as part of the Platinum range from March 5th.

Retailing at 29,95 Euro (that's around £26 of The Queen's currency), Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots returns following an incredible period as a full-price title.

The game saw over three million copies shipped on its release in June 2008 and has won a host of illustrious awards all over the globe, and its continued success saw sales of the long-running Metal Gear series top 26.5 million units.
