Islamic Leader Attacks Sony, and Not Like You Think!

200°
308w ago - As many of you may have already heard (or heard and then fist clenched your pre-order receipt in utter fury) the release of LittleBigPlanet on PS3 has been delayed worldwide due to it containing references to the Qur'an, the central religious text of Islam.

The official word about the incident from Sony is as follows: "During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur'an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused."

Head scratching, knee-jerk reaction? We certainly thought so, and it seems that we're not alone. We recently received a phone call from Mr Keysar Trad from the Islamic Friendship Association of Australia, and he was similarly mystified as to Sony's decision to go into LBP meltdown...

During the brief conversation Mr Trad related the following: "My son is doing Islamic studies over in Lebanon, he is a gamer, and he was very upset that the lines were being taken out. He said "why are we Muslims always overreacting?" He thought that it was perfectly...

Microsoft, This is How You Blow Your PS3 Lead in Japan

50°
309w ago - So Microsoft is doing pretty good in Japan. Not great, but good. Good enough to beat the PS3 last month. This is the Xbox 360 display at Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara. Back in August, the Xbox 360 sold out in this very store.

If you've been to Akihabara, you know that this is a very large retailer. Lots of shoppers! So for Microsoft to sell out right here is a good sign, and it's great for the Xbox 360's reputation in Japan.

This demo set-up is not. Well, no, the set-up is fine, it's the upkeep. But just as Microsoft starts to gain ground in Japan, an old friend rears its ugly head...

Out of all the demo kiosk consoles Microsoft needs working in Japan... Doubt this will catastrophically affect Xbox 360 sales in Japan. Microsoft will most likely sell lots of consoles this holiday season. (So will will Nintendo and Sony. Everyone wins!)

TGS 2008: Halo 3 Recon & Tekken 6 Lead New 360 Software Push

100°
311w ago - Microsoft has revealed a batch of new software titles for the XBox 360 during its keynote session at the Tokyo Game Show today, naming the Halo project recently revealed by Bungie.

Halo 3 Recon is dated for autumn 2009, and sees the return of Microsoft's number one franchise to the XBox 360 system with new single and multiplayer content.

The latest big name franchise to make the leap to Microsoft's console is Tekken 6 from Namco Bandai, also due next autumn.

Tekken follows Final Fantasy as a franchise previously associated with Sony's PlayStation brand and highlights the recent trend for Japanese developers to go multiformat with releases.

A sequel to the Q Entertainment title Ninety Nine Nights is also due for the system, along with a handful of new XBox Live titles including Metal Slug 7 and King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match from SNK Playmore.

PS3 to be Lead Format for Skate 2 due to Skate 1 Criticisms

50°
311w ago - Black Box has confirmed that the PS3 will be the lead format for Skate 2, due to criticisms levelled at its predecessor.

Speaking to GAMER.tm recently, Black Box producer Jason DeLong confirmed that the PS3 version of Skate 2 would be the lead version of the game, after the PS3 version of Skate 1 was criticised for not being as good as its 360 counterpart.

"The PS3 has been our lead platform," DeLong confirmed. According to DeLong, this was due to "the PS3 version Skate not being as good as the 360 version," adding that it "was something we learned very quickly that we had to remedy on the second one."

Despite this, DeLong reckons gamers will be hard pushed to tell the difference. On the topic of whether there'll be any noticeable differences between the two versions, DeLong said "not so much."

"We're definitely been developing [both versions] in parity. The goal is that if you put both versions side-by-side, you will not be able to tell the difference."

So in a nutshell then, followers of both consoles will benefit. Skate 2 is due out sometime next year.

Sony rising: PS3 opens up lead on Xbox 360 in July

50°
318w ago - The July NPD sales numbers have been released, and as always, Nintendo dominates in every way, while Microsoft and Sony battle it out for a distant second place. The industry continues to see large growth year over year, with a 35 percent jump in sales for the year to date, and an impressive 48 percent jump in software sales alone. With the large difference between the sales of Nintendo's hardware and software and its two main competitors, one could easily make an argument that Nintendo is to be thanked for much of that growth.

Nintendo
The Nintendo Wii sold 555,000 units in July, while the Nintendo DS sold 608,400 units. While this may look like a dip from last month due to the number of weeks in July, it's still much higher than anyone else on the charts. Games for Nintendo's platforms also make up five of the top ten slots in the software sales, with Wii Fit taking the number two slot with 369,600 units sold, Guitar Hero: On Tour taking the number three slot with 309,700 units sold, Wii Play coming in at number four with the 284,000 units sold, Mario Kart Wii taking the seventh place with 174,500 units sold, and Rock Band for the Wii coming in at number eight with 165,800.

Nintendo properties continue to sell amazingly well, and the Wii version of Rock Band is the only version on the...
