Video: Final Exam Coming to PlayStation 3 on November 5th, 2013

40w ago - Mighty Rocket Studio CEO Francois Potentier announced today alongside a video trailer that Final Exam is coming to PlayStation 3 on November 5th, 2013.

To quote: Hey, I'm Francois. I run Mighty Rocket Studio, and I'm pleased to talk about Final Exam with you. There are nine people in the studio, and this is our first game. We created the studio for this game. So we hope that you'll love it!

Final Exam is a beat'em up in which your goal is simple: survive. You were going to a class reunion. It should have been a fantastic party... and you suddenly realize that there are monsters everywhere... and they're after you.

You can choose from 4 characters that are all classic, teen archetypes. Brutal Joe is the quarterback of the group. He likes hitting and everything related to raw power.

Cassy is a street dancer (I'm sure she was a cheerleader in school), and her special attacks are dance moves. Nathan is a geek. He loves technological stuff (and he's my favorite). The last one, Sean, is the handsome guy... but the bad boy. He likes playing with firearms.

Each character has unique, powerful attacks based on their skills. Each skill has 4 power levels, up to the ultimate attack that blasts everything...

48w ago - Square-Enix Associate Director of Product Marketing Amritz Lay posted up a behind-the-scenes video today showcasing Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (Part 1) below.

To quote: In 25 years, [Register or Login to view links] and the Final Fantasy development team have never had a behind-the-scenes look at how the franchise is created. Until now.

We're excited to unveil a brand new series titled "Inside the Square," which takes an in-depth look at one of the greatest RPG franchises around.

Earlier this year, we ventured out to Tokyo with an Emmy award winning camera crew to spend time with Yoshinori Kitase, Motomu Toriyama, and the entire Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII development team.

We quickly realized that each member of this incredibly talented group has a lot to say. Furthermore, the Final Fantasy franchise has such a rich history and so many moving parts, we couldn't properly showcase how these games are made in one video – so you get to witness the first of a three part series.

Our goal with this series is to show everyone a different side of the development staff, and what it's like to work at one of the most prolific video game companies in the world - Square Enix.

We also wanted to give everyone...

The Past, Present, and Future of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

200°
48w ago - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe French Community Manager Aurelie Reman shared an interview today covering the past, present, and future of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn below.

To quote: [Register or Login to view links] launches tomorrow on PS3. To celebrate the launch, PlayStation.Blog sat down with Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida to talk over A Realm Reborn's long gestation and epic ambitions.

PlayStation.Blog: Which element of A Realm Reborn is most going to surprise PlayStation players?

Naoki Yoshida: I think one of the big things will be the amazing graphics, which really push the limits of PS3's technical capabilities, as well as the fact that this is an MMORPG experience. Also, MMORPGs are most usually controlled using a keyboard and mouse, but our Cross Hot Bar system we've developed specifically for the DualShock allows for smooth and exciting play, so that's another area of interest for PS3 players.

PSB: What improvements have you made since the original PC release of Final Fantasy XIV?

Yoshida: I think that improvements can be roughly split into three areas: to regain the trust of the players, to fundamentally rebuild the game experience from the ground up, and - most...
