Modern Warfare 2 Co-op Dropped as it 'Ruined the Experience'

550°
261w ago - In a recent interview with VG247.com (linked above), it was revealed that the original build of Modern Warfare 2 had a co-op campaign mode.

Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling briefly commented about it along with detailing a "substitute" for the co-op mode, Spec Ops mode.

To quote from the interview: "We did it early on; that's what Spec Ops started out as, as co-op through story," said Bowling when asked why Campaign co-op didn't make the final game.

"But it really broke the cinematic experience, took the immersion out of it, out of the story and the pacing and everything we'd spent so long crafting.

It just ruined the experience we were aiming for, so we took it out, kept the single-player for that one player intact and polished it."

PlayStation Home-esque Experience Coming to XBox Live?

300°
262w ago - Today Joystiq (linked above) received some interesting info from a reader, who claimed to have taken part in a survey run by Microsoft which featured avatars playing classic arcade games in a virtual arcade setting.

If that sounds familiar, you probably played PlayStation Home before.

To quote: If a consumer survey sent over to us by a tipster is to be believed, Microsoft is looking to bring a virtual Avatar arcade to the Xbox 360. Some of the potential names listed in the survey are "Game Room," "RetroCade," "Tower of ROM," and "Classics LIVE." Yeah, we're partial to "Tower of ROM" also.

If the proposed service sounds familiar, that's because it's nearly identical to PlayStation Home's arcade spaces - like Namco's virtual arcade - just replace the dead-eyed dopplegangers of Home with the scrunchable avatars of Xbox 360.

The second survey question sent to us asks, "Which of the following names would most compel you to purchase the product?" indicating that the "Tower of ROM" might not be a free space but could instead have a fee associated with it.

MAG PS3 Servers Experience Heavy Traffic, BETA May Reach 6GB

550°
265w ago - According to Examiner.com (linked above), an influx of new MAG BETA participants from both Qore subscribers and SCEE lottery winners led to a large increase in server load today.

A post from Shijima in the [Register or Login to view links] reveals this in detail along with hinting that the current 3GB download may total 6GB in size before all is finalized.

To quote: "Okay, I'm sorry to have to bring you some bad news. Due to circumstances beyond our control and some serious server issues, we were unable to send any codes to anyone today. I've been told that the earliest the first batch is likely to be sent out is Monday. I know many of you won't like this, but I thought it best to let you all know so that you don't have to keep checking your inboxes.

As it is, not even the existing users are having much luck getting into a game due to some critical download issues that the team are working to fix. As the servers are offline over the weekend, having to wait until next week is probably a blessing in disguise for you all. Hopefully by then all the problems will be fixed and the service will be running smoothly again.

I should also warn you that it's only become apparent today that the download is going to be pretty...

Review: Killzone 2 for PS3 - The Ultimate Shooter Experience

100°
294w ago - After years in the making, an insurmountable amount of hype and negativity, positivity and pessimism, it's finally here. It's been a long and hard battle for Guerrilla Games (GG) these past few years.

Having to try and match up to the massive expectations of the community. Mine were also huge, so the question is, how has Killzone 2 fared against them?

To get a sense of what the sequel has achieved, I'll start with the original Killzone, a game that never quite grabbed me in the way I'd hoped. Sure, it had impressive visual and artistic appeal, a fairly decent story and likeable characters. But the gunplay (number of bullets needed to down enemies/aiming/controls), technical issues and pacing, left me wanting more and ultimately in my eyes designated it to being simply mediocre and ever shy of greatness.

Then along came Killzone Liberation, a PSP title that in many ways proved that GG had more to offer. It was a solid little third person shooter, but not quite enough to remove anxieties that the developers had what it took to make the sequel AAA.

Visuals

Naturally the first thing that will hit you about the game is the incredible presentation values and visuals. From the opening cut scene which is both powerful and bold, to the very first time you lay...
