Walmart is Now Testing Used Video Game Buy Back Kiosks

400°
278w ago - Wal-Mart has stepped up its quest for a slice of the used games market by rolling out a number of used games buy back kiosks.

Essentially the kiosks allow gamers to trade their old games for in-store credit so they can buy whatever they want.

To quote: You'll create an account that you log into every time you go to trade in a game to the machine and this account will presumably be accessible on any Wal-Mart used game kiosk.

There is also a slot to slide your credit/debit card; it's uncertain what role the card plays in you trading in games but my guess it's for some sort of accountability (who traded in what game, etc).

Once you've inserted the used game, the machine will print you a voucher for in-store credit. These kiosks, which accept PS2, PS3, Wii, and 360 games, are only in a few Walmart stores right now but seem to be working their way to more and more locations.

EA Asks Journalists: Please Give Us Back Our Illegal Weapons

283w ago - Recently [Register or Login to view links] expressed its consternation towards EA's Godfather II 'swag kit' containing Brass Knuckles.

The publisher then began a flurry of hush-hush phone calls to arrange the return of the weapons. EA [Register or Login to view links] beyond expressing a desire to assist journalists in proper disposal of the items.

To quote: The game in question: Godfather II, a Grand Theft Auto-style adventure based on the famous movie. The offending item: a set of brass knuckles, mailed to video games journalists together with other goodies including a cigar, a silk handkerchief, and a book of matches.

But while it nicely complements the game's mafiosi theme, it also had the unfortunate side-effect of turning recipients of the mailing into criminals, as mere possession of brass knuckles is illegal in many states and can carry hefty penalties.

Formula One Pushed Back on Sony PS3 And XBox 360 Until 2010

300°
287w ago - Got a Sony PS3 or XBox 360? Then there'll be no Formula One for you this year.

To quote: The latest issue of the UK Official PlayStation Mag reckons the PS3 version's been pushed back to next year.

And (surprise, surprise) now sources 'in the know' have told us the 360 version won't be out until 2010 either.

Our source said that Wii and PSP F1 games would be released later this year, but only because Codemasters doesn't "want to piss off the rights holders." Which really fills us with confidence.

True? Yeah, probably. Codemasters has shown off most of its 2009 line-up, but has given us nothing on Formula One so far. A delay sounds about right.

Secret Message Found on Back of Killzone 2 for PlayStation 3 Box?

100°
297w ago - Dutch site PS3Life is reporting that the back of the Killzone 2 for PlayStation box appears to contain a secret message.

As images of it make their way to the Internet, it appears to be a fairly standard and ordinary design except for something striking on the back.

Pictured below you will see circled some curious text on the left side (click to enlarge the image). If you look closely you can see a few letters, but a sentence or a word we can not make out.

Whether it's just part of the box's artwork design or a hidden message remains to be seen. Feel free to share your thoughts below!
