Video: DC Universe Online Fight for the Light PS3 DLC Revealed

50°
162w ago - DCUO Game Director Mark Anderson has shared a DC Universe Online Fight for the Light video trailer direct from Comic-Con today complete with PS3 DLC details.

To quote: Greetings from San Diego Comic-Con! Here on the show floor we're happy to be showing DC Universe Online's first expansion pack - Fight for the Light.

Light powers have been a huge fan request since before launch, and we've created an entirely new power set from the ground up with new abilities that deliver on the power fantasy of wielding light constructs in combat.

We've put way over-the-top weapons that you could only imagine right into your hands! We've worked hard to build on the existing gameplay mechanics that players love, and to apply them in unique ways that give the new powers a look and feel all their own.

Exercising your creativity and bringing your imagination to the fight is a huge part of being a Lantern, and we wanted to bring that feeling to our players. With light, players will now be able to combine weapon-based combos and superpower abilities in way that just feels right for a Lantern.

You can create things like hard-light boxing gloves and use them as a new "on the fly" weapon that comes complete with its own combos. Not only...

FPS First Person Shooter PS3 Homebrew Engine in Development

350°
162w ago - Today PlayStation 3 developer SnakePlissken--PMW has announced news of an FPS First Person Shooter PS3 Homebrew Engine for Custom Firmware in development along with some details on the first game.

To quote: My Name is Snake Plissken. I am Chief Commander of a group known as PMW NATION. I'm currently directing our groups development branch into bringing to the PS3 one great first person gaming experience by means of homebrew on PlayStation Custom Firmware.

We hope to release onto the world a whole new concept in homebrew development on the PS3 by developing an "homebrew engine" that future developers can use to make homebrew with to be used on the PS3.

With the engine one could make your own First person shooter homebrew. It has been proven that other forms of homebrew can be made for and used with the engine as well. Not only that but This would offer a interface for developing homebrew outside of PSL1GHT for all types of CFWs (as we will port the engine to work with multiple types of CFW's)

Developers would need a way to install a .pkg onto there PS3s. They would then make homebrew in form of "recourse data" with the Gaming engine’s tool chain. that is then coupled and distributed with the engine.

A user can download the engine.pkg and insert it on...

Video: Inside the Twisted Psyche of Catherine for PlayStation 3

100°
162w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has posted up a video today which delves into the twisted psyche of Catherine for the PlayStation 3 entertainment system.

To quote: There are plenty of Mature-rated games. But look past the killing and the cursing and you'll see that many Mature-rated games are anything but. Catherine is an exception, the rare Mature-rated title that tackles a truly mature theme - infidelity - in a thought-provoking and unusual way.

If you're a gamer, you've likely heard about Catherine. Whether you read the somewhat skewed early impressions or the more recent glowing reviews, Catherine is probably not the game you think it is.

It doesn't help that early screens of the game played up the sultry, eponymous co-star of the game. If nothing else, Catherine is unique: a puzzle game with fast, tense pacing and a well-developed storyline that has something to say.

Catherine is a hard game to describe, so I recommend downloading the free demo that hit the PlayStation Store last week. Shortly after the demo landed, Aram Jabbari from publisher and developer Atlus dropped by to speak with us and show us a deeper dive into the strange world of Catherine. I focused my talk on questions that the demo didn't...

Video: Sideway: New York PSN Trailer, Hands-on at Comic-Con

50°
162w ago - Playbrains Studio Director Scott Simpson has unveiled the first Sideway: New York PSN video trailer today alongside some hands-on details from Comic-Con 2011.

To quote: Sideway is our upcoming action platformer based on the in-development cartoon series from the wonderfully twisted minds at [Register or Login to view links].

Oh, did the screenshots convey that we have hours of mindbending levels full of danger and challenge that will make the paint run from your veins?

Or that we support drop-in, drop-out couch co-op so you can play with your friends or that the bosses in the game are unlike any you've come across in your gaming life before?

Did the shots at least convey the basic conceit of the game: that you painted over the wrong dude's tag, and that you, in fact, are now a moving 2D painting in a 3D world?

Regardless, if you're interested in seeing what all of the above is really like, we're just putting the finishing touches on a demo for Comic-Con this week in San Diego. Oh yes, my friends, that's right--when you come by [Register or Login to view links] at the Con (Booth #4436), not only can you check out the awesomeness that is Sideway, but you can also...
