Street Fighter IV Leaked & Available to Download for XBox 360

284w ago - Piracy is a very big problem in the gaming industry, primarily affecting the PC platform. As such, a lot of companies choose to release new titles exclusively to consoles, ignoring the PC platform for fear that they might lose a lot of money.

While the [Register or Login to view links] and other developers and publishers of video games are backing up the PC, it seems that they are fighting with the proverbial windmills.

But let's not forget that consoles do encounter problems, at least the Xbox 360, as we have recently learned that Capcom's upcoming Street Fighter IV title has already been leaked and is up for anyone to download and play on their modified Xbox 360 console.

Torrent sites are being assaulted by players eager to test out this long awaited title, as there are still quite a lot of days until the retail release of the game in Japan, February 12, North America, February 19, and last but not least, Europe on February 20. Also, let's not forget that the PC version of the game still doesn't have a concrete release date, as Capcom wants people to buy the title for the consoles first.

Street Fighter IV is the latest iteration in the long running fighting game franchise owned by Japanese company...

Sony Encourages Buying PSN Content Over XBox Live Subscription

400°
284w ago - Sony continues to play the value card in its fight against the Xbox 360. This time, instead of focusing on hardware, the company shows you what games you could buy if you weren't paying for Xbox Live.

During CES, Sony gave press the argument that the PS3 was actually a great deal... considering all the features that came with the system. That only works if you want those features, and a $400 system is a hard sell even if it comes with an Eva(n?) Longoria love-doll.

Sony has now made a second argument that makes much more sense: look at what you can buy for the cost of Xbox Live.

Microsoft's online service costs $50 a year, if you don't find a card on sale, and Sony wants to show you what you could be buying with that money if you were online with your PS3. You have to give it to them: $50 on the PlayStation Network gets you some pretty great stuff.

"Rather than paying a $50 subscription fee that competitors charge for on-line services, PlayStation Network users could put that money towards a variety of content," the company claims. What could you get?

• PAIN ($9.99)
• Elefunk ($4.99)
• Guitar Hero Classic Rock Track ($6.25)
• LittleBigPlanet™ Metal Gear Solid® - Level Kit ($5.99)
• Episode of Afro Samurai | Season 1 ($1.99)

Microsoft Launches 'Free Your Avatar' for XBox Live Members

284w ago - Recently Microsoft launched a new way for XBox Live members to interact with their newly minted avatars.

The new initiative is called "Free Your Avatar" and with this new idea, comes a [Register or Login to view links] where you can take your avatar out of the Xbox Live arena, and put him into desktop wallpaper, screensavers, etc.

Once exported, users can then customize their image, uploading and adding props and backgrounds to liven things up. You will even be able to create festive cards that you can send to friends and relatives.

All clothing choices are free, and will remain available. It is easy to tell what is new when you are in the avatar editor, just look for the gold star. Any item of clothing with a gold star is new since the last time you signed in to the avatar editor.

Finally, Microsoft states the application will provide options for every special occasion, from XBL member's birthdays to holidays.

Microsoft Plans Free XBox Live Gold Functionality for GTA IV

50°
284w ago - Microsoft has announced that is will offer free access to Live Gold functionality for players of Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV in February. Starting on February 17, anybody playing either Grand Theft Auto IV or its upcoming expansion, The Lost and Damned, will be able to play free of charge. The offer will expire on February 22.

The move is set to coincide with the release of the new DLC episode The Lost and Damned, which Rockstar hopes will revive interest in its open-world shooter. Hopefully they have also made some tweaks to the multiplayer modes in this new game. Heck, if it is free to go online and check them out, we will definitely give it a go.

This is the first time that Microsoft has extended such an offer. We can see this move potentially backfiring for the Redmond company, however. Like the days of Perestroika, once gamers get a taste of the good life, they might not be so eager to go back to the old gulag of paid online service.

Hopefully this opens the door for future online demo offers to coincide with the release of new titles, leading to the eventual liberation of Xbox live for all. Microsoft, tear down that wall!
