142w ago - Sony's Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has posted up a video today where Ed Boon and Stig entertain Kratos vs Mortal Kombat on PS3.
To quote: The first time we saw him we thought, 'Oh my God, what a great Mortal Kombat character he would make.'
Ed Boon is very excited. The Mortal Kombat creative director and co-creator can finally spill his guts regarding one of the most anticipated video-game crossovers of all time: Kratos' exclusive guest appearance in the PS3 version of Mortal Kombat.
"We kind of felt it was meant to happen," he says. "We think we've done Kratos justice."
Ed Boon and God of War III director Stig Asmussen don't remember who made the first phone call, but both recall the Kratos crossover talks starting early in Mortal Kombat's development cycle. "I remember somebody saying, ''hey, there might be this possibility of Kratos appearing in Mortal Kombat,'" Stig remembers.
"I said, ' You gotta be kidding me, we gotta make this happen! Let's get on the phone.'" Describing himself as a "huge God of War fan," Boon was all too eager to work out the details and spark a larger collaborative effort between both studios.
142w ago - Today Myce.com (linked above) interviewed PS3 hacker KaKaRoToKS, who states that a PS3 Firmware 3.60 solution is indeed coming after reports and videos of a 3.60 JailBreak running code circulated last week.
Below is the the KaKaRoToKS interview in full, to quote:
What are your thoughts on the recent PS3 3.60 firmware cracking video that was uploaded and removed over the course of a day last week? Many dubbed it fake and said it was a debug PS3, but when we chatted with the guy who uploaded it he defended it as real and said it was a retail unit.
I’ve seen the videos, and I also talked to the people who did it. Whether it’s fake or not, I cannot tell as I have not been authorized by the authors to divulge what they did. All I can say is that they said they would never release it, so whether it’s fake or not has no importance, since in the end no one will have access to it.
However, as I’ve said to a few people on Twitter, the hack that was used on 3.55 and lower was unique and Sony fixed it. So, that’s...
142w ago - Today wuepe at Spanish site Elotrolado.net has updated the PS3 backup game manager to Open Manager v2.1 Rev J-2 for PlayStation 3 Custom Firmware users along with sharing an OM 2.1I-2 PS3 XMB Game Launcher mod.
To quote from French site PS3-Addict (linked above), roughly translated: This mod is a bit special, he is a manager that can launch a single game at a time. It will display the games directly in the XMB as in the picture above. This mod also manages the settings for each version as patch management or automatic execution. It is therefore a function similar to MagicPKG or to eboot tool offered by deank.
142w ago - Update: Some more legal doc updates have now surfaced, which include GeoHot's laywers response refuting Sony's claims (via Groklaw) that the "blickmaniac" PSN account belongs to him.
ArsTechnica is also reproting that GeoHot's PS3 SCEJ manuals remained sealed, that he couldn't have known of SCEA to set up a PSN account and that the PlayStation 3 serial numbers don't match.
Today many sites are reporting that Sony has allegedly found George Hotz's PSN account under the nickname of blickmanic which would subject him to their TOS, that the PS3 hacker is currently fleeing or vacationing in South America, and finally that GeoHot may have intentionally removed integral components of his impounded hard drives prior to delivery.
