141w ago - Sony Online Entertainment Lead Designer Stephen Bokkes has made available a video announcing that Free Realms hits PSN today and includes Voice Chat and PS3 Trophies.
To quote: Today, as a PS3 gamer, you should ask yourself only one question: where can I race a demolition derby car against my friends, build a fun house for my friends to come play in, battle monsters as a stealthy ninja, own a parrot and talk like a pirate, raise a dragon pet that poops hot coals, and ride a rainbow unicorn off into the sunset?
Starting today, the answer is Free Realms! That's right, Sony Online Entertainment's popular online virtual world makes its way to the PlayStation Network today and you can all play it for FREE.
Free Realms is the first casual, free-to-play MMO ever to be offered on the PlayStation Network and definitely has something for everyone to play, adventure and experience.
Players can take on endless amounts of roles including ninjas, warriors, or wizards, while participating in a variety of activities such as adventuring for treasure, playing a soccer game, decorating their player house,...
141w ago - Zipper Interactive Senior Community Manager Jeremy Dunham has shared some new video footage today of the SOCOM 4: PS3 Multiplayer Map.
To quote: Today's the day that players who nabbed SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs Multiplayer Beta vouchers in copies of Killzone 3 or at PAX East 2011 can now redeem their early access codes!
In celebration, we wanted to give you a sneak peek at two SOCOM 4 multiplayer maps that haven't really been seen outside of Zipper Interactive yet - Von Heine Express and Cesspool!
Von Heine Express was actually one of the last MP maps we finished; the idea behind it was to create an environment that captured the spirit of our classic SOCOM II map, Fox Hunt, but was built on the themes of SOCOM 4 and made for great sniping scenarios.
Set on the coast of Southeast Asia in a makeshift military base that comes complete abandoned train cars, Von Heine Express is a favorite here at Zipper and has only been seen publicly once - at PAX East 2011 where it was part of that event's SOCOM 4 Championship Tournament. Check out the video below for a flythrough!
Another map that we're happy to unveil is Cesspool. Cesspool was one of the earliest MP maps developed...
141w ago - Today PS3 hacker Mathieulh has tweeted some new details on dumping LV0 from PlayStation 3 3.60 Firmware and obtaining the new keys, followed by Ps3WeOwnYoU claiming he has already reproduced it to confirm it works.
Below are all the tweets, as follows:
xShadow125 You can update from your own pup only from 3.55 or lower, unless you have an exploit.
xShadow125 Of course that should be fixed in upcoming lv0 revisions anyway (By moving the ldrs to the top of lv0)
xShadow125 You run the 3.60 lv0, then you switch the nor, and pull the cell reset line, and you dump the extra KBs where the loaders are.
xShadow125 Basically you have a nor with 3.55 (or lower) lv0 and your own small lv1 code that does the dump, and 3.60 lv0 on the other.
xShadow125 You wont get all of lv0 but the part with the loaders shouldn’t be overwritten.
xShadow125 You can actually get all the 3.60 keys/loaders without knowing lv0 keys by dumping lv0 from ram with dual nor and signed lv1.
To those planning on building a 3.56+ pup for whatever reason, the files attributes changed, the group and user ids for the files as well.
141w ago - Zipper Interactive Senior Community Manager Jeremy Dunham has posted up the SOCOM 4: Killzone 3 promo code PS3 Beta schedule and details today, which runs from March 29 to August 4, 2011.
To quote: The SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs testing pool is about to get even bigger! Starting tomorrow, at 12:00am Pacific, the SOCOM 4 voucher codes that were included as giveaways with Killzone 3 (and at our PAX East 2011 booth) become active.
This new influx of players will join the existing crowd of previously introduced PlayStation Plus and Private beta testers, and will have all the same privileges as the one-week and two-week vets.
If you didn't receive an early access voucher or don't have a PlayStation Plus account, don't fret! Starting April 5th, the all-access beta will be openly available for download through the PlayStation Store. While the beta download will be removed from the Store with the April 12th PlayStation Store publish, SOCOM 4 Beta servers will be up and running until April 13th.
Though our servers are open all day, every day we do limit what modes are available so that we can keep our testing focused. Here's how the schedule looks this week:
141w ago - Consisting of 1,716 PlayStation 3 consoles linked together and utilizing OtherOS, the Rome Research Lab has announced the completion of their new PS3 Condor Supercomputer, which is now fully online and claimed to be in the top 40 most powerful supercomputers.
Currently it is being loaned out to universities so they can crunch slightly less dangerous data, and the system is also intended to provide analysts with new levels of detail from pictures gathered from spy planes.
The Condor will enable 24-hour real-time surveillance of a roughly 15 mile-wide area, allowing video processed from radar signals to be viewed in real-time or played back.
Such a system can help to investigate the moments before an event such as an explosion or an ambush on military units. It is part of military developments aiming to achieve constant and detailed surveillance over a wide area.
To quote from HotHardware.com (linked above): With 7 SPE's per PS3 (the eighth is deactivated), the 1,716 systems offer a total of 12,012 processors.
The Condor is, according to the Air Force, one of the forty fastest computers in the world and will hopefully solve a pervasive problem for the modern military. Up until the last sixty years, the various branches of the military all suffered from a...
