148w ago - Today PlayStation 3 developer Ole has released CDG Player r1 with source code for the PS3, which is a simple program compiled by the PSL1GHT SDK and libraries that plays MP3 files and displays graphics stored in CDG files (the format is used in many karaoke disks).

Q: does it play CD disks ?
A: no, use a ripping program to convert your CD to audio tracks in mp3 format

Q: does it play OGG, WAV, etc. (your favourite audio format) ?
A: no, just mp3 format is supported (16 bit, stereo, 44100 or 48000 Hz) along with the cdg format

Q: does it support zipped files ?
A: no

Q: does it support microphone plugged in the PS3 ?
A: no, to amplify your voice you need an extra hardware (mixer)
 

PS3 Debug / Test Firmware 3.50 - 3.60 Updates Leaked

148w ago - Over the last few days several new PS3 Debug / Test Firmware updates have been leaked outside of Sony Dev and have surfaced publicly courtesy of Cairobeta and ConsoleDev, however, no new SDK files have yet since the previous PS3 3.41 SDK file leak.

The leaked PlayStation 3 files include PS3 Debug Firmware v3.60 Update, PS3 Debug Firmware v3.56 Update, PS3 Debug Firmware v3.55 Update and PS3 Debug Firmware v3.50 Update.

It's important to note that these PS3 Debug / TEST updates will currently NOT install on a retail PS3, and so it is intended for examination and comparison purposes only unless you own a Dev unit.

For those curious, running this updater on a retail PS3 will not damage it, however, it will give the following error before the installation completes: The data type is not supported. (8002F029)
 

PSN Download Manager with Automatic PS3 Game Updater Plugin

148w ago - Just a small update, to announce the very first plugin / extension is out for the PlayStation Download Manager as requested by users, this is a small sample of the PS3 Automatic Game Updater / LVC - Latest Version Checker.

It currently will not automatically update your games, but will demonstrate the features that will be included in the Automatic Game Updater extension / plugin due for release in the next week.

Current Features:
1) Can locate the latest update for a PS3 Game
2) Ability to search via the BCES / BLES / BLUS Code
3) Initiate the download on the PS Download Manager 3.92

There will be an update to this extension / plugin, that will turn it into the Automatic Game Updater as this will be the very core behind it.
