ID Software Goes Hands-On with Rage for PlayStation 3

164w ago - Today SCEE's Roland Fauster has shared some hands-on details from ID Software spotlighting Rage for the PlayStation 3 entertainment system.

To quote: When Rage is released this October, it will be the end of a long journey for the game. It has been four years since [Register or Login to view links] first announced their large demo project for their new proprietary ID Tech 5 Engine. Nevertheless, the popularity of the project has never waned.

Two weeks ago at Gamescom, we were finally able to try the game out ourselves at the Bethesda stand and gain our own impression of the exciting FPS/Racing/RPG crossover.

Our gaming session begins right at the start of the game. As one of the few survivors of a meteorite strike, we are fighting our way on foot and in exhilarating dune buggies through an inhospitable world, when we are suddenly attacked by a mutant, and quickly believe we are in a realm of the dead, when a nice, human-looking inhabitant saves us at the last moment. Very friendly! Naturally, we feel indebted and are prepared to carry out some assignments for him.

This means getting rid of deformed mutants from certain buildings, and we do this in classic shoot'em up gameplay fashion, which is really enjoyable, but Rage would only be half as fun if you didn't...
 

Project PNM Stand-Alone Mode for PS3 NOR Flash Mangement

164w ago - As a follow-up to the previous Project PNM news, here is another update from PlayStation 3 hacker No_One below.

To quote: Hi mates, I wanted to give you news concerning the PNM project. I really missed time. But I just finished what I call the "stand-alone mode". In this mode, we can do everything concerning the NOR FLASH mangement.

Here are the functions working now:

  • copy memory
  • dump memory
  • update memory
  • display memory CRC32
  • read memory
  • display memory details

PNM is now working with 2 NOR sockets and 1 "virtual" one which is the PS3 embedded memory. It means for example that now we can dump/update the PS3 NOR like any flasher, but also copy its content to another FLASH and so on...

Next step now consists in wiring the PNM board to the PS3. This is what I call the "PS3 mode". I will do it next week

I will of course give you details, some nice pictures and maybe a video. We are not so far to be capable to dual firmware the PS3 and do some nice progress in FLASH decrypting.

PS3 CEX to DEX Kit (Retail to Debug) Surfaces, Requires IDPS

164w ago - A few weeks back we saw a video on Booting Debug on a Retail PS3 Unit via Rebug PS3 CFW, and today zeryos has made available a PS3 CEX to DEX Converter Kit (Retail to Debug) which currently requires IDPS (PlayStation ID via Sony's server in the format of request_idps.txt) by PlayStation 3 hacker "You know who" in order to fully convert a Retail PS3 console to a Debug / Test unit.

Video: JFW DH CFW Demos PS3 Game Backups via TheGrid Plugin

164w ago - Today Spanish PlayStation 3 developer DemonHades has shared another JFW DH CFW video demonstrating PS3 game backups running via TheGrid dev_flash plugin without the need for a backup manager!

To quote, roughly translated: In this video I show how since we started loading the plugin that mounts the flash, and will not need more than dev_blind, Alexander, etc.

This in combination with the preloader you can give a lot of play, especially for the new plugin load backups without backing Multimedia loaders type

Of course it does not you have to use Multimedia to mount flash, multi-manager assembled pieces of other devs and license free gpl source posted lol

164w ago - Ubisoft Community Developer Gabriel Graziani has announced today that starting tomorrow the Assassin's Creed: Revelations PS3 Beta will be open to all users on PlayStation Network!

To quote: Since the Assassin's Creed Revelations Beta is going so well, at 10:00 am tomorrow (PST) we have decided to open it up to ALL PSN USERS!!

The Beta is scheduled to end on the 11th of September, so get started on that download ASAP so you don't miss even a moment of the action!
