Tokyo Game Show 2008: Microsoft Post TGS Impressions

50°
308w ago - For the very first time, Microsoft did a presentation at one of the biggest video game events in the world, which is the Tokyo Game Show.

Since the announcement of Microsoft appearing at the Tokyo Game Show, people were skeptical as to what they had to offer in this year's event. There is news that is surprising to most of us and some are well expected.

Let's take a look to the major announcements of Microsoft that might change the sales in Japan:

1. Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope
It's been confirmed once again that this is an XBOX 360 exclusive and it will be released in Japan on Feb 2009 while the US will have to wait a month later, March 3, 2009

2. Tekken 6
This might be a shocker to all Playstation 3 fans out there but Tekken 6 is one of the Sony's biggest known exclusives but it seems Namco Bandai has decided to spread the Tekken 6 love to the XBOX 360.

3. Ninety-Nine Nights 2
A sequel to the smash hit Ninety-Nine Nights 2 has been announced. Could this be better than the first one?

4. Metal Slug 7 & King of Fighters 98
These classics are indeed going to appear on the XBOX 360 through the XBOX Live Marketplace. These two classic games will appear in Spring 2009.

5. NXE to Appear...

Sony Shows off PlayStation 3 Line-Up in Toronto

100°
308w ago - Sony converted a downtown Toronto art gallery into PlayStation 3 heaven Tuesday afternoon by outfitting the space with demo stations for dozens of games slated to be released over the holiday months.

Centre stage went to Sony exclusives like Resistance 2, the sequel to the PlayStation 3's top launch title. The second game in this popular sci-fi shooter series continues the story of WWII-era American trooper Nathan Hale as the fight against alien invaders moves from Europe to the United States.

There were half a dozen demo pods running the game, but a pack of excited reporters barred me from taking a turn at the stick. However, the detailed burnt out buildings and horrifically creepy aliens I managed to catch glimpses of over players' shoulders left me with the impression that Resistance 2 could be one of the most visually sophisticated console games of the season.

A first-party game that I did get some controller time on was MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Disappointing A.I. spoiled the otherwise lovely first game in the series, so I was keen to see if the computer controlled drivers in the sequel exhibited more lifelike behavior than their predecessors. It seems as though they do, but I didn't race enough to know for sure.

And, truth be told, I was more fixated on the game's graphics...

FFXIII and Versus are Video-Only for Tokyo Game Show 2008

200°
312w ago - Square Enix has posted their list of titles they'll be dishing out at the Tokyo Game Show, indicating which are playable, and which will video-only at the October event.

Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII are showing up as video only.

Hopefully they'll be on the outside of the usual Closed Mega Theatre, and be more than just trailers.

At least a video walk-through of gameplay is something to hope for.
