Videos: PS3 Slim is Slower Than the Original PlayStation 3?

750°
266w ago - As previously reported, we know that the the PlayStation 3 Slim uses half the power of its 'Fat' counterpart.

Now reports are coming out of the popular Japanese blog Ore-teki (linked above) that the PS3 Slim may actually be slower than its bulky predecessor.

Of course these differences may be caused by differences in harddrive, but in this case the maker of the video claims the same 7200RPM HDD is installed in each... which leaves room for firmware/hardware variations or simply random fluctuations.

Whatever the cause, it seems unlikely Sony will be admitting any undocumented performance difference between the models.

Below are some PS3 HDD and Blu-ray speed comparison videos demonstrating the apparent differences:

Videos: New PS3 Ad Campaign: It Only Does Everything

650°
266w ago - Today Marketing & PlayStation Network Senior Vice President Peter Dille has unveiled the PS3 console's new ad campaign- It Only Does Everything.

To quote: I'm excited today to unveil our brand new ad campaign for PlayStation 3. This year is going to be a game-changing year for PlayStation.

Last week, we extended an incredible value proposition with the $299 price move and the introduction of a sleek new form factor for the 120 GB PS3. We've coupled this news with a truly unmatched content line up this year with some of the most eagerly anticipated games in our history.

But this is just half the story. Today we are laying down the final puzzle piece with a new marketing campaign for the PS3 and the introduction of its new tagline, "It Only Does Everything."

You may remember our [Register or Login to view links] from earlier this year where we introduced Dustin Pedroia's "Dear PlayStation" spot and our resident PlayStation expert Kevin Butler.

These new ads, created by our partners at Deutsch LA, birthed a new campaign in which we will have direct conversations with consumers about everything the PS3 can do. And as you'll see below, "It Only Does Everything."

We know many of you would...

Videos: PS Home GamesCom and Red Bull Flugtag Mini-Game

250°
268w ago - Some new PlayStation Home videos are available today via the Presentation Podium in preparation for the upcoming GamesCom event and also on the new Red Bull mini-game entitled Flugtag.

Check out the PlayStation Home GamesCom trailer courtesy of Alphazone4.co.uk (linked above), and the latter video highlights what Red Bull Flugtag is all about from fijiwaterboy on YouTube.

Finally, to quote from [Register or Login to view links]: "This is labelled 'Flugtag Game Space', and shows a similar island surrounding to the current 'Red Bull Air Race' space, along with a large pig being thrown off the side of a short pier.

We know that the real-life game is based on creating your own contraption that you think will take you the furthest through the air before you come crashing down into the water below. Some people make hand gliders, while others deliberately make massive rubber ducks just for fun. The crazier the better.

It's pure speculation how this game will be implemented into PlayStation Home, but looking at how the game is played in real life, and at Sony's 'Game 3.0′ view, this could possibly be one of the first user-generated content games that we've seen hit the Home service."

New Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Videos & DLC Support

100°
268w ago - Today several new Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising videos were released in their community forums (linked above).

Dubbed 'Blinding The Dragon', 'Hardcore Mode' and 'Take The Beach' they feature key members of the development team, marking the first in a series of developer videos that are going to take you behind the scenes of the development of Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

In an [Register or Login to view links] with Codemasters' Tim Browne, multi-platform DLC support is detailed as well- to quote:

"The console users will be able to use those vehicles at different times, but obviously we do have plans for DLC, and some of this is going to be free DLC, so people who are like, "Why do the console gamers have to pay to use something the PC gamers can use for free?", that's not necessarily true because we do have plans for free DLC as well.

The community has supported us for the long and we want to give something back to the community as a sort of thank you. So what we want do is, we want to bring out DLC, we want to support the community, we want to have competitions and things like that based around missions - I'll leave that up to your imagination."

Finally, the new videos and related screens...
