Ratchet and Clank delayed, demoed

356w ago - Earlier this week, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts nominated Insomniac's widely admired lombax and robot duo in two categories for their PlayStation 3 debut, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. Though the winners will be announced on October 23, the heat-packing duo, should they win, won't be on hand to accept the award as originally anticipated. Posting to Sony's PlayStation Blog, line producer Greg Phillips has revealed that, yes, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction has shipped to manufacturers, but it won't arrive on retail shelves until October 30.

Slightly offsetting the bitter side of today's news, Phillips offered an extra helping of sweet with word that a Ratchet and Clank demo should arrive on the PlayStation Network on October 11. An optimized version of the demo shown at this year's E3 Media & Business Summit, the free trial lets players tool around in the futuristic city of Metropolis. (A similar demo is now available to preorderers of the game at GameStop.)

As detailed in GameSpot's previous coverage, Ratchet and Clank's maiden voyage on the PlayStation 3 kicks off a new multi-installment story arc in the 3D platformer. True to past installments, the game features a healthy dose of over-the-top weaponry and tongue-in-cheek...

PSN MotorStorm-ed by Sigma add-ons

50°
356w ago - September began with a deluge of content being loaded onto Sony's PlayStation Network. In addition to five demos, the first week of the month saw add-on packs for MotorStorm and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Though understandably not as robust, Sony is ending September in much the same way, with add-ons for Ninja Gaiden redux part deux and Phil Harrison's most favorite racer, as well as a pair of demos landing on the PlayStation Network this week.

Tecmo has released its second of three planned add-ons for Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Whereas the Weapon Master add-on tasked players with surviving using a limited set of weapons, the new Speed Master download puts players under a time and power-gauge limit in five survival modes. As with the first, the mode includes leaderboards and is available for $2.99. Fans of Sony Europe's off-road racer now have the Castro Capitano racing truck to cake with mud. As with the four rides released earlier this month, the Castro Capitano costs $0.99 to download.

As reported earlier this week, a trial of Clive Barker's supernatural spooker has been added to the PSN. In the demo, players will attempt to survive in the city of Al-Khali during the Crusades. As the spirit of deceased squad leader Cpt. Devin Ross, players are able to possess the bodies of heavy-weapons expert Sgt. Frank Delgado,...

The Future of Sony Online Entertainment?

50°
356w ago - The next big thing in massively multiplayer online games might very well be the decidedly old school world of card games. Online trading card games to be specific.

Since its August launch inside Everquest and Everquest II more than 4,500 matches of the Everquest-themed online trading card game Legends of Norrath have been played.

SOE president John Smedley told me in a recent interview that more than 30 percent of the MMOs' players are currently playing the trading card game and that they've sold more than 5,000 virtual boxes of booster packs for about $100 a pop.

Clive Barker's Jericho demo arriving this week

50°
356w ago - Codemasters confirmed to GameSpot today that a PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 demo for Clive Barker's Jericho would be getting under gamers' skin this week. The PC demo will creep onto GameSpot Wednesday, with an Xbox Live and PlayStation Network trial slated to follow on Thursday.

Clive Barker's Jericho is rated M for Mature. Check out the latest trailer for the game, available exclusively through GameSpot, and pick up the PC demo on Wednesday.

In the demo for Barker's latest supernatural shooter, players will attempt to survive during the Crusades time period after their strike force has been decimated by the evil forces controlling the city of Al-Khali. As the spirit of deceased squad leader Cpt. Devin Ross, players will be able to possess the bodies of heavy-weapons expert Sgt. Frank Delgado, telekinetic sniper Lt. Abigail Black, and enchantress and martial weapons specialist Sgt. Billie Church. Players will also get a first-hand look at the warped abominations that Barker has devised for the game.
