Yakuza 3 for PlayStation 3 is Coming to US and European Markets

400°
254w ago - Some Yakuza 3 PlayStation 3 (Japanese) videos surfaced last year, and now it appears as though Yakuza 3 will be heading to the west.

According to 1UP (linked above), Sega is currently working on localizing the title for a western release. Sega doesn't confirm this announcement, but it gives fans a reason to hope it does happen.

To quote: "According to sources close to the project, Yakuza 3 is currently being localized for release in the U.S. and European markets."

With the Tokyo Game Show happening later this week, the chances of an announcement there are very strong. Since the first two games had abysmal sales in the US, hopefully, PS3 owners will actually buy Yakuza 3.

Let's hope Sega makes a formal announcement in the very near future.

Sony to Launch Huge European PlayStation 3 Marketing Campaign

50°
257w ago - Sony is set to launch an £82m pan-European marketing campaign for the PlayStation 3, firing the first advertising salvo against rivals Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox as consumers start to think about presents for Christmas 2009.

The TV element of the campaign, which has been developed by the TBWA agency, marks a departure from Sony's traditional tactic of often esoteric and dark commercials.

To quote: The new set of TV ads, the first of which launch in the UK tonight, focus on the simpler aim of describing the range of services available on the PS3. These include online gaming and Blu-ray movies, downloading TV and film content and being able to watch the BBC iPlayer.

"Two years after launch, PlayStation 3 is realising its full potential," said Alan Duncan, UK marketing director. "The console is moving beyond gaming and gaming is moving beyond discs."

And, when you do, please bring us [Register or Login to view links]. We love them.

European Union May Order Microsoft to Bundle Other Browsers

50°
283w ago - The European Union's antitrust investigation team has released preliminary statements on how it will rule on the question of whether Microsoft abused its dominant market position to push the adoption of Internet Explorer; the remarks are not encouraging.

The investigation is not over–Microsoft still has time to issue its own formal response to further concerns the EU raised in January–but the company may need a Hail Mary pass to escape the penalty the EU is prepared to level.

Jonathan Todd, spokesperson for the EU Commissioner for Competition Neelie Kroes, gave the Web site [Register or Login to view links] a peek into what the commission is planning in the event that Microsoft cannot successfully answer the EU's questions.

"If the Commission's preliminary conclusions as outlined in the recent statement of objections were confirmed," Todd said, "the Commission would intend to impose remedies that enabled users and manufacturers to make an unbiased choice between Internet Explorer and competing third party web browsers." There's also a hefty fine attached to the remedy, but it's the browser issue we'll focus on.

"Unbiased," in this case, means "bundled." Under the proposed penalty,...
