GTA IV Online for PS3 is down!

50°
338w ago - If you are a proud owner of Grand Theft Auto IV on the PS3, then you might not be so proud to know that the online multi-player mode is down. Or, at least it appears to be so for PS3 patrons.

Numerous players have received errors upon attempting to connect; this blogger included has not been able to get the multi-player to work.

An error message pops up: "Cannot connect to game provider, please try again." Hopefully, Rockstar can get things running soon. Wouldn't want to upset the GTA IV crowd, if you know what we mean.

In the meantime, get back to the single player game. We'll keep you posted as we find out more.

Will a PS3 Download Service Starve Blu-ray?

50°
339w ago - Sony is working to roll out a video-on-demand service for the PlayStation 3, and one report says it could happen as early as this summer. However, most Blu-ray DVD players in consumers' homes are actually PS3s. Will offering an online service cannibalize Sony's high-def format?

PlayStation 3 owners may soon be able to watch movies without ever leaving their living rooms.

In an official PlayStation blog entry dated April 15, the game maker hinted at plans for the PlayStation Network in 2008 and a recent revamp of the PlayStation Store. A senior marketing executive also mentioned that a video service was in the works for the PS3. Then, a report in Monday's Los Angeles Times cited unnamed sources familiar with the matter who asserted a video service is indeed headed for the PS3 as early as this summer.

"Many of you have been hearing rumblings about a video service that will allow you to download full-length TV shows and movies via PlayStation Network for North America," wrote Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing and PlayStation Network, on the PlayStation blog. "While I don't have any new announcements here for the PlayStation Nation, it's already been confirmed that we'll be offering a video service for the PS3 in a way that separates the service form others you've seen or used.

PS3 Video Download Service Launches Summer 2008

50°
339w ago - According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, which cites anonymous film studio executives, Sony is set to launch its online video download service later this summer.

As rumors have previously suggested, sources close to the LA Times say that the online store will closely integrated with Sony's PlayStation Network. Among the store's initial offerings are said to be movies and television shows.

It's no secret that a video store is coming. The only question is when. If this report is to be believed, the service will launch in summer. Which makes sense, considering the annual E3 Business and Media Summit kicks off in July.

Diablo 3 countdown timer?

50°
339w ago - Our friends at Blizzplanet sent along a mysterious little tip. Diablo3.com is not actually a Blizzard site (at least currently) – it appears to be somehow affiliated with Blizzplanet's network (there are also links to WoW Radio, so we're checking with them to see what's up as well).

But on both Diablo3.com and Blizzplanet, there is now a countdown leading up to thirteen days from now, which lands us squarely on May 1st. On Blizzplanet, there is a note that says "The Church of the Triune will be shaken in..." On Diablo3.com, the message is much more practical: "The number of days until half the web links to Diablo3.com. But why???"

So what's happening on May 1st? Best case scenario, of course, is the official announcement of a third title in the Diablo series. I wouldn't hold your breath on that one, however – while it has been rumored for a long time, it seems unlikely that Blizzard would break the news on an unofficial site.

But then again, maybe it won't be an unofficial site by then – if diablo3.com was sold to or otherwise obtained by Blizzard (they obviously own the trademark), and is switching over on May 1st, that would definitely be enough reason for "half the Web" to link to it, even without an official announcement of the game.

Either way,...
