Video: PS4 Keyboard and Mouse Support for PlayStation 4 Games Demo

15w ago - Below is a demonstration video of unofficial PS4 Keyboard and Mouse support for PlayStation 4 games courtesy of electrical engineer and DIY hobbyist Frank Zhao (aka frank26080115) via Eleccelerator (linked above).

Why did you do this?

I like playing shooter games on PC but my laptop is too weak to play them. Game consoles do not support USB keyboards and USB mouse, they only support gamepads. Gamepad controls are not suitable for shooter games, using a keyboard and mouse is much more comfortable for gameplay.

How does it work?

I designed a circuit that features a microcontroller and USB hub. The keyboard and mouse plugs into the USB hub, and then the microcontroller takes the data from the keyboard and mouse, translates them to the data format used by the PlayStation 4. It does the translation in a way as though the mouse was the right thumbstick, and the keys are mapped to buttons (the WASD keys are mapped to the left thumbstick).

Video: Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut Arrives on PS4 / PlayStation 4

15w ago - Born Ready Games Community Manager Jamin Smith posted up a video announcing that Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut arrives today on PS4 / PlayStation 4 consoles with details below.

To quote: Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut is out today on PS4. Space combat has returned to consoles for the first time in what feels like millennia.

Strike Suit Zero was born out of a passion for space combat and the sad realisation that the genre was severely under-represented. As game developers, we had the opportunity to rectify that.

The Born Ready Games team grew up on a steady diet of Wing Commander, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, Freelancer, Freespace - all the classics from the 90′s heyday. We wanted to create a space dogfighter in the same vein, but with an updated look and feel that would make it relevant to today's audience.

The first thing we did was introduce a mech to the heart of the game. The Strike Suit - a fighter that can transform into a devastating suit of space armor at the touch of a button - eliminates issues with older games we refer to as "jousting" and "circle chasing."

The Strike Suit is quick and agile, allowing the player to turn 180 degrees quickly and take out any enemies that...

Sony Goes Hands-on with MLB 14 The Show on PS4 / PlayStation 4

15w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements went hands-on today with MLB 14 The Show PS4 on PlayStation 4 with details below.

To quote: Big and small. Those two words best describe the visual improvements San Diego Studio has implemented in MLB 14 The Show on PS4. From the detailed stitching and fabric of a glove to the 4x texture resolution of entire stadiums, the team has pushed itself - and PS4 - to create an unrivaled experience in baseball.

The PS4 version of MLB 14 The Show boasts plenty of obvious enhancements over its feature-rich, PS3 counterpart. Players look better even at a glance, with uniforms and helmets that wrinkle and flash under the grace of a new lighting model.

While stadium crowds in the PS3 version were made up of about 40 different models, the PS4 version hosts 1,000 individual models in varying clothing and gear - and each model has approximately the same number of polygons as the actual players did on PS3.

The list goes on. Individual blades of grass provide a subtle accent against a player's shoe. Stubble grows on his cheek. These details, big and small, push the PS4 version ever closer to visual parity with a game broadcast on television.

For those that haven't played the PS3 version yet, MLB 14 The Show brings a litany of new features...

Video: 10Tons Ltd Announces King Oddball is Out Tomorrow on PS4

15w ago - 10tons Ltd PR Coordinator Jaakko Maaniemi shared a video below today announcing that King Oddball is out tomorrow on PS4.

To quote: Hello readers - exciting times! It's been pretty frantic bringing King Oddball over to PS4 from PS Vita, but we're really happy to have it as our first PS4 release.

We can't wait to see how the game is received on the big screen.

I've covered the game pretty well on Playstation.Blog in earlier posts, so I'll shed some light on the various special level sets and how they came to be.

First, a quick recap: King Oddball is a skill-based, physics puzzler, where your goal is to clear the screen of enemies with three throwable rocks. So far so ordinary, but in King Oddball, you don't get to fling the rocks any way you please.

The King swings a rock back and forth like a pendulum, and the rock is released when you hit X. Gravity takes over, and you hit your target if your timing was good.

Accurate timing takes you only so far though, because soon enough you need to be strategizing about where the rock will bounce after the first, second, and even third impact. Tip: it's often good to start from the topmost targets, as the rock will fall down eventually,...
