Sony failing to deliver promised free PS3 consoles?!

400°
352w ago - A reader on a tech site is reporting that Sony are failing to deliver the free PS3's they were offering as a sweetener with Bravia TVs.

The customer says its been nearly 5 months and they have still not received the PS3 and Sony are offering no solution to the problem.

It is unclear if this is an isolated incident or more widespread.

To quote: Dear Blorge,

I would like to bring to your attention a matter that has happened to my grandfather of all people regarding Sonys Bravia tv offer. With every 1080p television sold they would give a free Playstation 3 away.

My grandad was already looking at a Sony 40" Bravia tv. The X series. by the way the TV is brilliant. The problem was with the playstation. He ordered the TV half way through December, and it took, after a month of delays might i add, a month to get here. We were told by sony we would have to wait for the TV to get here before we could order the playstation and it would then take 28 days.

With much help by our local Retravision my grandad has been persistent on the issue ringing Sony asking how long it would take to get here. It is now the end of april and it still has not arrived. We have contacted Sony several times asking the question but with no definite answer or real apology. I am very angry...

Microsoft unveils its Web vision

50°
353w ago - Microsoft has lifted the lid on a new Web service called Live Mesh, designed to connect a multiplicity of devices and applications online. The service is seen by many as a key plank in the company's vision for the future of the Web.

Live Mesh is designed to blur the lines between running software and storing data on a desktop and "in the cloud". Microsoft's Amit Mital said Live Mesh would "connect and bring devices together... to work in concert".

Live Mesh pits Microsoft against companies like Amazon, Google and Salesforce.com which are already offering different varieties of so-called software-as-a-service systems. It comes as Microsoft is engaged in a bid to buy rival Yahoo and emphasises just how important the web has become to the firm.

"We may be seeing signs of a Microsoft that is newly focused," Jonathan Yarmis, a vice president and analyst at AMR Research, told Reuters news agency.

He added: "This is exciting because it has as much to do with who is doing it as what Microsoft is doing."

Microsoft has long been criticised for its unfocused efforts in the online space and for attempting to tie the use of Windows to the web.

While initially offered for Windows XP and Vista users, Microsoft has said Live Mesh will also be rolled out to Apple Macs...

CoD4 sells over 9 million copies and breaks DLC Records

354w ago - According to the NPD figures which were released today, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has officially sold over 9 Million copies worldwide since it's release!

In addition, the Variety Map Pack we recently released on Xbox Live and soon to be released on PS3 in a week; has broke Xbox Live Marketplace records pulling down over 1 Million downloads within it's first 9 days. Not to mention pulling down Xbox Live Marketplace in the process when it launched.

Some cool numbers we pulled recently to see just how much gameplay that actually is, shows that Xbox LIVE members played more than 30 million sessions and logged over 30 million hours of gameplay!! We're talking 1.9 billion minutes logged in the first 9 days!!

If you don't have the Variety Map Pack yet it's currently available on Xbox Live Marketplace for 800 MS Points and will be hitting the PSN store starting April 24th (US) or May 4th (EU) for $9.99 and includes four new multiplayer maps.

I knew we had a huge loyal community and it's always cool to pull specific numbers to quantify just HOW large it actually is. Also, don't forget tomorrow night is the Xbox LIVE Fire Weekend for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare where you can play with the team here at Infinity Ward and myself from 3 - 6 pm PST (6 - 9 pm EST) as well...

Sony Pictures to release its first BD-Live titles on April 8

50°
357w ago - According to Reuters, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is targeting April 8 to release its first two BD-Live titles.

They include "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" and the Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi thriller "The 6th Day". The PS3 firmware update v.2.20, that will enable the use of BD-Live features, will be available in "late March."

To quote: Now, the big push is for Profile 2.0 players, which are slated to start coming to market in the next few months. Accordingly, studios are scrambling to produce final spec BD-Live software as well, with Lionsgate leading the charge in January with "War" and "Saw IV" -- a bold move, considering there weren't yet any players on the market that could tap into the discs' Web-enhanced content.

Sony's two BD-Live titles each include exclusive downloadable theatrical and home video previews along with a FAQ about BD-Live functionality. "Walk Hard" includes three featurettes that star Bill Hader as Derek Stone, a historian and expert "Coxologist." These featurettes are available only via the BD-Live download.

BD-Live titles also have the potential to enable a wide range of Web-based features, including ringtone and wallpaper downloads, peer-to-peer interactions, live virtual events and gaming.
