300w ago - Sony has launched the official Web site for its hotly anticipated creation platformer LittleBigPlanet. While the site is fairly light on actual content at the moment, it does feature a gallery of new screenshots depicting the adorable Sackboy, along with desktop wallpapers and trailers pre-formatted for viewing on your PSP and PC.

LittleBigPlanet is scheduled for an October release on PlayStation 3. Developer MediaMolecule plans to kick off a limited BETA test in September, though specific details have yet to be announced.

301w ago - Below is a picture of an XMB screenshot (courtesy of NeoGAF member DJmizuhara's PSN Friends List) of someone playing the LittleBigPlanet BETA.

The image sourced earlier this week, but a post on the official blog confirms the BETA trials are active.

On their blog, Media Molecule mentions:

"(we are working very hard, honest! The beta-trials are keeping us especially busy)."

Don't Panic's LittleBigPlanet Character Creation Competition

303w ago - Don't Panic has teamed up with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe to launch a character creation competition for Media Molecule's ambitious PlayStation 3 platformer LittleBigPlanet.

With the provided template file, entrants are asked to create their own unique character design. If selected, your prized character will make it into the final retail version of the game, plus you'll have the gratification of knowing that thousands of people are using it throughout the game.

Furthermore, in addition to having their character put in the final version of LittleBigPlanet, the contest winner will receive a free PS3 console, along with a complementary copy of the game itself.

A croc comes to life in LittleBigPlanet

309w ago - Play. Create. Share. That's the mantra for the LittleBigPlanet team. We know that the "Play" aspect of the game is swell, but what about the creation aspects?

Media Molecule wants to make their creation engine as simple as possible, and they released a few images showing how a deadly crocodile can be constructed using just a few spare parts.

Playing with Legos was always fun, but something of this depth and magnitude has been almost unheard of -- at least for a mainstream audience.

Hopefully, we'll be able to showcase some original creations of our own when we get our hands on with LittleBigPlanet soon.

No LittleBigPlanet Open BETA says Producer

100°
310w ago - The Community Development Manager (Sam Bennett) and Producer (Pete Smith) of LittleBigPlanet have again said that there will not be a LittleBigPlanet public open BETA.

Instead, the BETA test will be done by an internal group at Sony, but a small number of gamers and press may be invited to this. SCEE did previously say that the closed BETA would start this summer.

To quote: We had the opportunity to speak at length with various LittleBigPlanet producers at PlayStation Day, as well as get some hands-on time with the title. Top of our discussion list was the beta. We wanted to know as much as possible about when it's coming and have done since it was implied last July.

However both Sam Bennett (Community Development Manager) and Pete Smith (Producer) maintained that a public, open BETA will sadly not be happening. The game will go through a BETA phase, obviously, but this will be performed by an internal group at Sony.

There's a possibility of a small number of gamers and press being invited into the BETA phase, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Releasing the game in its entirety to the public, free of charge would be suicide.

Instead, there's talk of a demo being made available, which will curb our monstrous hunger pangs for the game until its October...
